Can you wear Armor under Power Armor?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:23 am

Now that Power Armor is more of a mech suit, it got me wondering, can you wear your formfitting armor while you are inside it?
For example, let's say you have a stealth suit and then get into the Power Armor, will you still be wearing the stealth suit inside the Power Armor?

I'd suspect it is highly likely, after all, I can't see you taking off your light or medium armor just to get inside the Power Armor.

And it is known that Power Armor suits were manufactured to fit around other armors:

In this case, this armor is made specifically to function in tandem with the Power Armor, providing added protection for the operator.

Consider the player had leather armor during the demo where he enters the PA, yes you can wear armor and still use the PA.

As far as I can tell from the E3 footage his leather armor was still on when he entered the suit. I do not know if armor you had on would still matter in terms of stat defense, but it doesn't look like it will be removed beforehand.

Off the top of my head I know the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Recon_armor (from F3 & NV, in lore at least) was made to be worn under power armor.

But it would be cool to see the light medium heavy armor categories from Morrowind in F4. I wonder if combat armor would be medium armor? If we assume that power armor is in its own category and riot armor is heavy? hmmmm...

This will probably be one of those things where there some liberties will be taken, and that you can wear your regular armor and pip-boy in the Power Armor.

Somehow i doubt Bethesda will make the player swap out or unequip armor to get into the Power Armor, and the reveal supports this.

I think if you can they will remove the clothing aesthetically while your in pa to avoid clipping issues just like when you equip helmets or hats they remove the hair. Also did anyone else read the title as "can you wear power armor under power armor?" lol confused the crap out of myself! :)

Probably, but I'm wondering how it will look if you're already wearing bulky armor.

Asbestos? Let's hope the Wasteland's background radiation works as free treatment for lung cancer.

Since the game pretty much treats the PA like a car (game mechanics wise) I assume once ya step into the PA the player character model gets replaced by the PA model, so any bulky armour basically magically disappears.

That is how the Hulkbuster Starktech armor works.
He wears his regular armor inside the big armor!

And now that stats have been mentioned, I hope you do keep the armor stats of whatever you are wearing while using the Power Armor.
I'm not sure how much would be compatible with it though, for example, I doubt you can Sneak very well while using it, if you were using Stealth based armor.
But you might be able to add things like Damage Resistance etc to whatever the Power Armor has.

Most likely yes.

No, your super-cool armor probably won't provide any additional defensive stats while wearing PA. Anything strong enough to penetrate a few inches of military-grade armoring probably will simply pass through your super-cool armor and into your squishy bits.

Yup power armor is all about the iron fist, when stealth/diplomacy fails you hit hard and fast with armor.

And remember under all that metal is the "inner casing suit" because parts of the power armor can and will be "shredded" when damaged enough.

For example, you're in the power armor, a super mutant shotguns you at close range right in the left side and boom there goes your left arm layer. So now you're character will take limb damage (left arm) and not the power armor.

So watch out for all those green hulks and deathclaws :P

Probably so. Power armor in this game is treated as you describe it, a mech suit. Almost its own kind of vehicle to get in and out of, instead of actual armor to equip that replaces whatever you're wearing.
