I think in one of the interviews Todd said something about a perk that could show you where on your map salvageable material was. Perhaps the perk was active in the screen shot and the icon is simply pointing you to a car that can be salvaged for material.
Also thinking back to Fallout 3 and how easy it was to ignite a car, I wouldn't want to drive one in a Fallout universe filled with gun toting trigger happy bad guys.
Why is scrapping the car not an option?
We scrap piles of tires and entire buildings in the demo.
I don't see why the cars would be off limits. That's a lot of metal that you could pound out and use for roofing and or siding. And other parts could be useful in crafting.
Or maybe we don't see it later, because the car gets blown up, launching it off of the bridge that it is on.
The color of the car is also moot, IMO.
Look at the mail drop box on the left. About the same amount of color saturation and patina on that as with the car, just a different color. In general, we have seen more things with very solid color saturation. The protectron we see comes to mind. Aside from that, what does a paint job have to do with a car running or not? People in the FO universe can't be bothered to sweep their floors, or clear out 200 year old rubble in the middle of their homes. Now they're painting cars?
Let's break that down. You have one of the few working cars in the wastes. You're really gonna make it cosmetically appealing? That's a good way to get ambushed/car-jacked, IMO. Seems more plausible that some of the cars just have some paint on them from pre-war. They are using a palette with a wider spectrum of color in this game, after all.
1. You mean the artillery strike?
2. VANS only has one rank.
I'm pretty sure scrapping rubber tires or buildings made of sheet metal and wood is easier to scrap than a car, which has a lot of thick and solid metal. Especially the engine.
However that's not to say that cars might not be scrappable in Fallout 4.
The question being asked is still the same why does the red car appear and disappear twice? And why is there a car icon in one of the newer YouTube video?
I dunno. taking down an entire house alone would be quite the task.
I tore down an old barn once. Took about a week. With a crew of 4.
Unlike a house, that barn didn't have electrical, plumbing, glued nails that aren't supposed to come out, concrete bolts, which aren't supposed to come out, and so on.
Cars are made to be taken apart. Engines aren't that hard of you have an engine puller, like the one you have your PA hanging on in the garage.
I just don't see how scrapping cars is insurmountable, or more how a car moving from one shot to the next means it must have been driven, as others are saying.
Yeah, but in order to get the metal from the car to change shape not only by pounding the metal with a hammer you have to also use blow torches or plasma torches to soften the metal to deform the metal or expand the metal.
Do you have any other explanation why that red car is on the bridge in the day time but not in the night time? I don't think you will be able to just move cars around like as if it's a shopping card in Fallout 4.
I edited above, but it could have exploded, as well.
As for the metal cutting and the like. Keep in mind that it could be used for more than houses- for crafting/modding. You are able to customize PA. I presume that means we have the capability to heat and shape metal. It isn't as if there a that many types of PA out there, so those custom pieces have to come from somewhere.
Even for the weapons and and settlements, we are fitting together things that are not made to fit together. This says to me there is the passive (in the BG/unseen) ability to re-tool items.
The only thing I can think of is that the cars will be like the carriage system in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Maybe even after you completed building your settlements.
VANS is highlighted in the Character Creation video on the perk chart on gamesas.com; it clearly shows that there's only a single rank associated with it.
The artillery strike can be seen in the video where that still was taken from. You get to see the artillery cannon fire, then the streak hit right behind the car and explode.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but the reasoning presented in this thread doesn't seem too solid, IMO.
Cheers
Day #1386
We are slowly losing our sanity. We have discussed everything and have run out of topics. Right now we are discussing driveable houses. Something needs to happen soon. We need November 10.
I would leave the car there for one specific purpose. To funnel the entrance of the settlement slowing down an invasion and making it easier to hit multiple targets.
