Can anyone that went to Quakecon confirm this?(Karma System)

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 5:37 pm

"Similar to Skyrim's reputation system, Fallout 4 will have a Karma based reputation system. Your actions will earn you respect in-game."

Source: www.gamezone.com/news/everything-we-learned-about-fallout-4-from-quakecon-2015-3422243

I have also read rumors about the developers saying something about releasing a video on Karma.

However if you google "Fallout 4 karma system" you don't really find anything substantial. its not really confirmed to my knowledge. While it is likely that their will be a karma/reputation system of some kind in Fallout 4, its not very known if it is something that is in fact confirmed.

That's very weird wording.

Maybe separate karma for each factions?

As long as i can actually improve my reputation instead of being stuck at odd intervals forever like in NV, I think the system works.

It'd be interesting if they had a video about Karma in the form of a SPECIAL short.

I would be very surprised if we didn't see the full QuakeCon video before release.

Has Bethesda been known to release footage from past exclusive video game conferences in the past?

I'm hoping that there's faction karma as well as an overall karma. It's kind of fun to have to build up a reputation with different factions and depending on you alliances, have it affect your reputation with other factions.

I didn't mind Reputation because it made sense (sort of) ---- you wipe out the Powder Gangers, they hate you and the NCR thinks you're okay. You start shooting the NCR and they think, hey, this gal's a little nuts, better watch her.... then you KEEP killing NCR and they say, Alright, that's enough - put her down! But Caesar is, like.... well, he's like "A ~woman~ did that? Inconceivable!" Then I stab him in the neck and whisper, "I do not think that word means what you think it does"... ;D

Where was I? Oh, yeh, but ~karma~ always struck me as a bit weird ---- if I steal from a raider, I'm a bad person? And who saw me steal?

That's one problem with reputation, too, though ---- if you wipe out an entire Powder Ganger base, who ~knows~ you did that? How can they be mad at you if no one knows what you did? It's that omniscient / omnipresent ~metagame~ feature I don't like. Now, if you do a QUEST for a faction, I can see where that faction might spread the word that you're a good person and their enemies may also hear about your deeds ~against~ them.... but just random stuff no one sees? Shouldn't matter.

100% agree with all of this. Hopefully the new game revamps the system to echo these points.

I think karma and reputation should definitely be two seperate things. I like the idea of the karma system being more about how the things you have done affect how you speak to others and how they react to your personality, because if you did bad things all the time even without others knowing, it changes how you act; your character. At the same time people aren't going to automatically know if you do bad things or good things if they have never heard of you. Especially considering what one group sees as bad another group might see as acceptable. So I would like to see both systems, or at least just reputation, or a combination between the two. And unique dialoge options for those of a certain karma would be really cool.

The karma and reputation systems didn't match up and get along to me in New Vegas. Between the two, I preferred the reputation system even though it was stupid that every kill had to be silenced and sneaky even if you killed the only person in that faction around - so basically entire factions are all psychic and that's ridiculous...like a step back to the days of guards in Oblivion. But karma was more of a nuisance with not enough consequences added to it, plus all the times it made no sense like being able to steal from some innocent people's homes and there's no karma loss yet I steal from an evil faction such as the Legion or the Powder Gangers and I do lose karma, yet after stealing I can turn around and kill them and...not lose karma, or sometimes even gain karma. Da fuh.

My ideal system would be, karma is only ever rewarded from quest-related actions. So no repeatable karma changes from giving away all of your purified water, or killing Fiends, or stealing everything that isn't nailed down. As for reputations, I just want something more flexible and logical, like the regional bounty system in Skyrim, but with quest actions adding to your "bounty" with a faction in addition to ordinary crimes.

So something along the lines of the paragon and renegade system in Mass Effect, maybe? But not necessarily where you can accrue the negative and positive concurrently. I wouldn't mind this.

Sort of? I'm not sure how much karma should be rewarded simply through what you say, though, like in Mass Effect - but then your dialog choices in Mass Effect often spurned action, too - so convincing someone to walk into a minefield or lay off the Psycho and support their family ought to offer karma.

I also wouldn't mind if good and evil karma were tracked separately, either, and neutral karma was just if both of them are relatively even. Depends on what they actually do with your karma rating, though.

Come to think of it, have we seen any indication of a karma rating in any of the menus? Brian Delaney offhandedly mentioned karma in interviews, so I think it's still in, but I didn't even see a "General" tab in the stats section of the Pipboy.

I approve of this, I really like the idea of this as well. New Vegas had this, I really hope they implant it into Fallout 4, that would be really cool indeed!

Karma was allready in FO3 and FNV.

Maybe they improved the system a bit further then being good or the Evil of the wasteland.

Separated, renown system for different factions, access to some items or allies depending on your karma level...

Yea but I just think its weird that Bethesda has not mentioned Karma or reputation in Fallout 4 yet, to my knowledge they haven't.
