You haven't done it until you've done it with a ghoul.

Could very well be that Bethesda literally only created a spouse so we can choose our gender. Could mean they are dead. We likely won't know for sure until the 10th unless some [censored] comes on here who played it early and spoils it.

Well, I'm coming on to say that I've played it and the reason we generate a spouse is because we gender-swap halfway through the main quest after the first character we chose is launched into space by a rocket coming out of the sunken chinese nuclear missile submarine. At that point, we lose all our leveling progress and pop into our spouse's body!

Shush, there's a difference between being open-minded and just letting everything just flow into your head - I guarantee that you consciously and subconsciously reject ideologies and values regularly that don't match your own, does that make you closed-minded? Stop making these terms just buzz-words that you abuse just to make petty jabs at a person, it's cliche and irritating.

I bet you'll run into your descendents, but not your spouse. Spouse died, but left you a family to meet 200 years later.

Perhaps, but at least I have the common courtisy of keeping those opinions to myself and respect others lifestyles instead of openly badmouth them on the net.

I guess I missed the memo where I'm supposed to be chill with everything everyone does ever. I'm sure you've achieved the apotheosis of understanding and acceptance and never disagree with anything people do.

Well as long as it doesn't harm other people, yes I'm quite chill with it.

Mass Effect tendencially did it as well. You had a romance option with a companion in the first installment, that a great number took. You are presumed dead (as is your lover) in the second installment and meet your former love interest later in the game, when you are usually already connecting with someone else.

In the third installment again you can romance whoever you want including both former mates. Quite complicated, yet I suspect a similar approach could be done in Fallout 4.

All we know is that we survived the Vault, whether that was for a reason or just luck we do not know. We do not know whether there are any other survivors at other times, people could have been abducted, ghulified, be in a closed off area in the vault, or a dozen other different possibilities.

That being said and I include SPOILER ALERT:

Spoiler
The trophies indicate that you are indeed reunited with your family, however the picture only includes oyur baby. As your spouse is carrying the baby when the bombs strike and this is the last thing we have seen so far, it indicates that at least Shaun is alive so your spouse might be as well. In whatever form.

I assume they die, but if for some reason the spouse lives I am totally sneaking a grenade into their pocket...

Hahah, that would be a interesting setting. If the PC makes a comment like "oh, [censored]" and you have to choose to accept the ghoulified wife, ignore her or donate a bullet. Would be interessting to see how many player would accept her despite her looks
