Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that you can play your PlayStaion 4 without ever connecting to the internet.

Thus, the Day One update is not required for the console to function. !!!

As people have pointed out, the game will run without the D1 update. However, as it might contain some important patches, I would recommend installing it as soon as possible. I've understood that many (if not all) PS4 game updates can be downloaded in the background, so if your device is online just download the update while starting the game and reboot during your first bathroom break.

Right. That's what updates are for right? To get the best full experience is to have the game as bugless as possible.

We have a whole thread talking about that all the game files will not fit onto the shipped DVD, if you play on PC that is, and therefore need to download a portion of the game after you installed it from the disc. This is not a Day One Patch. On PC you will need to activate this game in Steam as well which requires an internet connection at one point, before you can play.

edit: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1540482-fallout-4-will-require-a-steam-download-pc/

here is the thread, source is in the first post.

Edit 2: Just a reminder, this does not mean the console versions of course.

Based on my experience with receiving multiple ups/fedex this month and possibly next month I'd say 4pm-7pm

The OP is talking about the PS4 version. Try reading the original post of a thread FIRST before posting. Just a suggestion.

No need to assume that I quoted you to call you out or something, I quoted you because both replies put together explain the matter fully, for future reference, especially since the last thread is locked because of the post limit. :) So no need to worry. Just in case a PC user got into the thread and assumend that everything will be on his DVD.

I feel no sympathy for people who have a $350+ machine and somehow still don't have a basic internet connection. These consoles were designed to be connected to the internet full time. Day one updates, and other patches are critical to actually playing the game as intended.

OF COURSE they can be played without a patch, but only as long as you stay offline.

I have decent internet and D1 patches usually are not a problem but i wanna play it instantly. If i could have gotten my PBE at midnight like everybody else is then i would not have this issue but for some reason it is Mail to address only. I just hope that i don't get slammed with spoilers on social media before i even get the chance to make my guys face.
