Why no PS4 footage?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:31 pm

Yes, I know. That's why I mentioned it. I don't really agree with the rest of your post though.

They both had 512, but the PS3 was split vs the 360 with unified. When you say "and others too", yes some other devs had issues with the hardware as it was more complicated, but Bethesda was the only one that had prolonged issues. After a couple of years, everyone else had it figured out and there were games just as performance demanding (or more) than the Beth titles and they did just fine even with ports, but the best solution was not doing a port at all, but coding a game from the ground-up, side-by-side.

As BG said here...

I think it really hit it spot on, almost. We all know the size of the Beth dev team, it's not for a lack of effort but more so a greater focus on the other platforms first, second, third, fourth, and fifth...and around the 6th would be the PS3. Not a lack of effort, but a lack of enough resources (essentially manhours) to deal with it.

It's in the past and Sony did everyone a favor by going the more popular route this time. Even Todd Howard (or was it Pete Hines? I forget) mentioned it when the PS4 was announced ["Hooray for unified memory!]

Exactly. It's nothing against PS4. There's been an utter lack of ANY gameplay footage.

As mentioned a few times here, I think it's just a matter of a marketing agreement between Microsoft and Bethesda. I wouldn't stress too much of having a repeat of what happened with Skyrim on PS3 as Sony has a much better platform in the PS4.

So long as I'm going crazy... ;)

Really, the only video we've seen with any significant gameplay was the E3 video, and my assumption was that was a PC running it.

So to be fair, (to my knowledge) we haven't seen any Xbox footage yet either...

The E3 demo wasn't live - it was pre-recorded, with Todd narrating it.

We see Xbox button prompts during the E3 demo. I think it's likely that the footage was recorded on an Xbox, although it could have been recorded on a PC that was being played using an Xbox controller.

I thought Todd himself said it was running on the Xbox.

All the video frame rate was set in 30FPS,pretty sure it was a console gameplay not an PC.

If it was PC gameplay,I'm going to be mad cause those texture are so low grade last gen version and don't see how that could be 30 gigs of low grade textures(yeah I know there some other data used on those 30)..

My comment was in no way related to E3.... It was obvious that the E3 demo was prerecorded in ToddMode. I was referring to him actually saying he prefers playing on xbox in his personal life as well. But, thanks?

It's interessting how much PBR textures look terrible on video.

If you look on screenshots you see a lot more detail in the textures as you can make out in videos. I didn't see this with the Fallout 4 promotion material alone, also with other games and PBR developer videos from Substance (company that makes great PBR texture creation software). Will be interesting how it's in the game.

Except Sony is the dominate system now... so if anything they'd be porting to Xbox. A few multiplat form games are already giving the PS4 preferential treatment.

Huh?

I'm always interested in this kind of stuff - my understanding for many years has been that the Xbox architecture is much more similar to PC architecture, and so developers often do development for Xbox or PC as the primary platform, and then port from there.

Would love to read more information on this if you have any recent facts/links on your assertion.

I wasn't really talking about the PS3, even though that was a major problem, what I mean is I've heard several times that Sony is a pain to do business with. It's almost always the same story with cross-platform games; "We've got everything set on PC, Xbox One....and we're still waiting to hear from Sony."

For some games sure. I think it's pretty obvious that xbox gets preferential treatment console wise over playstation when it comes to Bethesda. Look at the exclusive timed DLC's that were out for xbox first. And them working with microsoft to bring mods to consoles first as well. Did Skyrim PS3 issues ever get sorted out? lol

Not during the E3 presentation itself but in an interview or Q&A after.

Eventually they did. They even had a "We're Sorry" sale for the DLC...think for each DLC, there was a two-week window when they were released that they 50% off.

I can only think of one major title right now that has flipped that switch and it's Activision. Their commercials for years for CoD would always end with ["Best played on Xbox 360"] and now they've switched gears and tote the PS4 line in there instead.

Fallout 4 will be more than OK on PS4 according to Pete Hines. So just relax, and enjoy that wonderful game, at whatever time it comes out.

It's at 1080p 30 fps(locked)

If it plays like Destiny, that will be the best game ever (?!?) lol

Bungie's Destiny gave playstation owners timed exclusives before porting them to Xbox. Batman Arkham Knight had a ps4 timed exclusive content. Also Black Ops 3 did a timed exclusive deal. Further research into this has revealed https://twitter.com/XxThe5sGuyxX/status/648085318873313280?ref_src=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1541294-why-no-ps4-footage/twsrc%5Etfw has stated there will be no timed exclusivity deals

Cause they made a deal with micro$oft to only promote their system as much as they can.

Yeah it's just a co-marketing deal. Microsoft gives Bethesda some free marketing, gets to tout their game at Xbox events and get it more exposure, but in return Bethesda doesn't have it on stage at Sony's press conference and doesn't even really talk about the PS4 version. Sony is doing the same thing with Star Wars: Battlefront. You see the commercials for the thing and you would think it's a Playstation exclusive, but its just that Sony has helped market the game and probably paid EA a tidy sum to have all marketing mention the game being on PS4 and not Xbox One.

Fwiw. I played both FO3 GOTY and Skyrim for hundreds of hours on a 360.
I remember all the troubles for the PS3 when Skyrim came out.
Anyway, got a PS3 a few months ago and re bought Skyrim:Legendary and FO3 GOTY.
I was happily amazed with the performance of both on PS3.
The graphics are much better on the Sony.
Small example: You know those Swalaski Protection Units that look like phone booths you can get in during a disaster? On the 360 there's a little blob to the right of the door that is unidentified. With the PS3 that little blob is clearly a coin slot that says "Exact Change Only" haha tripped me out to imagine someone frantically checking their pockets while the bombs are falling.
Anyway. They seem to have worked out the bugs in both games finally. In hundreds of hours with both games recently I've had less than a hand full of lockups/freezes.
PS3 is the superior experience.
I do like the 360 controller better though.
Like I said FWIW.

Technically there has been some PS4 footage shown - https://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/ffw4_FEibridgJhYzXiqZPUf5Os=/0x0:960x540/720x405/filters:format(webp)/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/47422024/fallout_4_vita.0.0.jpg

You can only remote play on Vita with a PS3/PS4...
