The Lucky Strike Indian is a reference to old wooden https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigar_store_Indian (Hank Williams wrote a famous song about one of them called https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_c1A8tmHuI). The test pattern Indian was just a tacky way to calibrate contrast.
