Fallout 4 breaking street date

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 9:04 am

There was this one guy back in the Skyrim days who managed to get a copy like a week early and do a lets play of it. I don't think he was even aware that he had broken street date.

These street dates get broken all the time though, and there's a whole mess of stuff that happen around them. I haven't heard of any merchants getting in trouble for it, but then Ive only kept track of Bethesda's releases. Im sure other companies would be more likely to clamp down on this sort of stuff.

There's people playing it on PS4 now. You don't need any day one patch to play.

These two pretty sure have review copies (they have already gone out and these people are breaking their NDA) which has nothing todo with breaking the street date.

The bigger the company, the more likely there will be repercussions. Bethesda has always been relatively small, but they've been growing steadily. Skyrim in particular shot their net worth through the roof, and cemented their place among the best developers, if not the biggest, and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they did enforce some sort of repercussions on the stores doing this for FO4, even if they didn't for Skyrim.

Almost every retailer especially take stores like Game Stop/EB etc will have employees playing early or selling early to friends. It always happens so no one should ever be surprised, the only way for Beth to combat this is with an online activation via hold back the executable file or such. No idea why they don't do it like that as many other Publishers restrict access to said street date. Even having vpn players get around It isn't a big deal as it's only a 24 hour'ish window or so and not weeks ahead.

Yes, but to be fair, PC has been getting leaked copies early too. It's only because of those restrictions that PC players haven't been leaking stuff as well.

Depends on the country really. I know here in the UK they have a system in place where its very difficult to break street date. They have the stock on the system and if a copy is sold early an employee can be fired. It can also result in retails being black listed from selling games too so a lot of companies just outright avoid breaking street dates.

I think its already been established that the street date has already been broken. The leaked footage, photos, and info can attest to that.

so far all the leaks that have come out have been from broken street dates for both the PS4 and Xbox One, infact one of the Xbox One ones are doing an AMA on Reddit. Obviously dont look if you dont want spoilers. they got their copy from best buy when they exchanged their Xbox One for a new one and were given one that was bundled with Fallout 4 in the actual box.

I don't see the point of breaking the street date on pc, as Steam will still lock it...
