From what I can gather, it is like Skyrim. You can join anybody without negative repercussions from the other factions.

I have no idea where you got that idea from, not even any of the leaks has suggested as such.
This is the important point. I feel as if people are skirting around the main issue by bringing up technicalities with the phrasing, but being real we all know what we're trying to discuss here.
The simple fact is, this was in New Vegas. A lot of people, including me, liked it because not only did it make roleplaying a lot more interesting, but it made logical sense. You shouldn't be able to fight for opposing factions. You can say what you like about "I don't like having options blocked off from me" and the like, but quite frankly how are you going to have a game with meaningful choices, if the outcome of these choices doesn't block something off from you?
If it does work like this, I would expect to see some extremely clever piece of storytelling in order to make up for it. If not, I'm going to be disappointed.
Skyrim was not like that at all, if you chose the stormcloaks you would be locked out of empire and vice versa. Those are factions, Dark Brotherhood and Companions are guilds. I sure hope though that we can't join all the factions without repercussions in one playthrough. I don't want the world to feel hollow.
Very true. It's as dumb as saying "I don't want to be forced to die". Consequences make choices meaningful. I wonder if there are any. Also, unfortunately, about the leaked info - that spanish player said that no quest he encountered could have been solved with dialog alone. I can only speculate that roleplay will not be given much importance in this game A few more days to find out...
It was shown that he had a very low charisma score, which prevented him from having many speech dialogue options.
Perhaps this also confirms that, unlike NV, where extra options are shown but won't work, we actually have to do multiple playthroughs with multiple builds to really "see all the conversation."
Yes Man/Independence was the option if you didn't want to side with House/NV,NCR or Legion
