Ok when I hit my R2 to enter vats nothing happens. I can still shoot and regardless of the weapon I am holding nothing. How do I go about fixing this?

Thanks

I have this problem intermittently also. It's frustrating as hell and always seems to happen at the most inopportune time. I don't want to state the obvious, but I assume you've checked your controller options since it seems that in your case, it's all the time....

I get this sometimes too, but only ( I think ) when I start playing.
I can shoot the guns but just can't enter VATS.

After a while or if I take some damage, VATS work again.

This never happened to me in FO3

I actually think I may have discovered part of the problem. Like many ppl I have more than one controller. When I start a game with a controller that is not listed as the #1 (i.e. 2, 3, ect) the game does not recognize it; to move just from the title screen of "press start" I have to reassign the controller to 1. It then will at least launch the game. But once in the game VATS will not function. But quit the game and restart (with the controller now in the 1 slot) and everything works as intended. Now that is an odd glitch.

I'm having this issue as well. It seems to happen after I boot up the game or after fast travel. I'll try to enter VATS and nothing happens. Eventually it'll start to work again, but it can be frustrating when it happens. I've tried with multiple controllers, and it always happens.

This happened to me as well. I'm just starting. Powder Gang comes into Goodsprings and I was frantically pressing R2 and next thing I knew, my health was almost gone. Sigh. No idea why I couldn't go into VATS. Never happened to me in F3 GOTY.

I've had this problem intermittently as well, but now it's gotten serious. Ever since I accepted the part of the NCR "Bringing Back Hope" mission to that says you're ready to attack Nelson, I have not been able to initiate VATS under the open sky. In fact, I tried this just before talking to the NCR officer (inside or outside, doesn't matter) and it works, but as soon as you say that you're ready to attack, VATS doesn't work anymore. I hoped that it would eventually resolve itself, so I kept playing, but now I can only initiate VATS under the following circumstances:

1) weapon is holstered
2) weapon is zoomed (sniper rifle only)
3) I am inside a building

I play on Very Hard and I am a big fan of VATS. Losing this functionality hugely detracts from the enjoyment of the game for me. There are a lot of crashes, bugs, and glitches, but this is the first one that really kills the game for me.

I have the same problem, sometimes if I change weapon from the menu rather than the quick slots it fixes it. With me it just seems to happen at random intervals, I also have just 1 controller.

Keep your weapon holstered and coming up to an enemy hit VATS and it will auto draw your weapon and it will lock on.Happened to me many many times before i figured out that trick. But that's just a safeguard, due to the problem being random.

Okay, despite fast travelling, reloading, entering and exiting buildings, I could not fix this. HOWEVER... just walking a little further in one direction in the wasteland and suddenly it's working again.. go figure. I don't remember having this problem in FO3. The worst case so far was not having any VATS during the entire taking of Nelson (except inside buildings) until the battle was over, when it started working again. *sigh*

This happens to me sometimes too. So then I'll shoot my gun and try vats again and it will work. Or I'll wait a little bit and it will work. *sigh*
