OK this is what you do you go to megaton you don't have to but its for stalking up on stimpacks and ammo OK after your done that you head to smith casys garage don't know were it is look it up once reached the destination head inside the building and you will find a button on the wall press it a secret hatch will open go down the stairs and open the vault door and go inside the virtual realty machine and complete the quest inside the machine and your dad will come out the machine and you just skip like 25 percent of the story line so i hope this helped and have fun in the fallout world
