Your opinion of my character

Post » Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:33 am

I'm sure people put this post up all the time and its probably getting old but I figure its my turn to do it :P Anyways I wanted to know what the peoples of this forum think about this build. Its already created and I'm already playing through it so I doubt I will chance anything but its only like an hour after sewers so its possible. I especially want to hear from the people who know Oblivion more than their own mothers haha :P

Name: Xayne (not important telling but I wanteed to)

Race: High Elf / Altmer

Class: Arcaneblade

Specialization: Magic

Attributes: Endurance and Willpower

Major Skills: Destruction, Restoration, Mysticism, Blade, Light Armor, Conjuration, Acrobatics.

The skills are more or less permanent. I left out Alteration and placed in Acrobatics because I want to get the 5 max attribute cap each level. Same with Alchemy, it will help me get the 5 Intelligence bonus. So far in combat the build is successful. Feel free to share anything you think about it. Hate it, love it, think it needs work, share your thoughts.

Thanks everyone!

I posted elsewhere I think, but I like the build, I already have a Khajiit Ohmes Raht with those skills, but I took alteration instead of mysticism..
Its a very fun, tough character setup, so I think its very good.

What's yer sign blade?

Oops forgot to put the sign haha. I always forget 1 thing when posting a class or writting one down. My sign is the Mage. I like the Magicka boost and the apprentice/attronach (however its spelled) I just don't feel like enchanting gear to overcome the apprentice and I'm an Altmer so its twice to 3 times as bad as a Breton with apprentice. And I don't want to have to carry loads of magika potions everywhere for attronach. Plus the character is mainly magic so attronach doesn't make sense imo. Attronach to me would be used for a person who uses a bit of magic but mele is definately there primary source of offense. Me however magicka (destruction and resto are my prime forms with a blade attack here and there. So for every say 2-3 spells I will come in with a few quick slashes or a big one ect. I feel this build is one of the most neutral builds ever that I have built. I never have made a hybrid class, I usually go close to pure mage or pure stealth or pure warrior. Not in the sense of having only combat skills for say the warrior but I never mixed two forms of offense successfully. Only with the assassin character and that was box or blade from stealth. This time I just wanted to make a character who doesn't lose like 1/6 of his health when hit haha. A character who doesn't only rely on magicka or blade for a way of slaying enemies. I think I have succeeded for once.

Looks good to me. If you're on PC and don't want to worry about monitoring your skills to get attribute bonuses just install a mod and it makes it way easier and you can just play the game without any worries.

Thank you for the tip but I'm on the PS3 version sadly. Even if I wasn't I couldn't figure out how to work the mods because for some reason, I'm completely mod dumb. Couldn't figure it out back in the days of WoW and I probably couldn't do it now haha.

If you just use a few mods like I do its a piece of cake. But you're on ps3 like you said so no go. Ya getting the bonuses on console involves a lot of stuff like stabbing frozen people/casting tons of spells/taking hits from rats that takes a ton of time and doesn't let you play the game as much.

This sounds like a highly effective build.
My mage/archer, Altmer, Sign of the Mage, is my most powerful character in every respect (as well as my highest level reached at 50) except for melee combat, that title goes to my barbarian war mistress.

My majors are
Destruction
Blade
Conjuration
Marksman
Restoration
Acrobatics
Mysticism

Note that I don't spam skills or spells, or efficiently level, ever. Doing it this way, the teens were a little brutal, but beyond that growing pain, he kicks serious butt. Most of the time he never needs to resort to an actual weapon.

You will have great fun with this. Good work!

Id switch to a pure mage and go with the Apprentice.

The Mage on an Altmer doesnt make since to me, take Apprentice or Atronach, Apprentice is more fun IMO for the altmer.

Well the Blade was never intended as a resort to kind of thing. I just wanted to mix up the attacks because I find it more fun. Plus I just like the RP idea of a mage who has kick@ss sword skills.

I'd use either a claymore to keep your enemies at a distance or a dagger to get lots of quick attacks if you plan on being a mage first and a fighter second.
