A question about pickpocketing?

So from what I've seen/heard looting is done in real time. How does this apply to stealing from an NPC? And are we going to be able to see their whole inventory?

There is also a "transfer" option from the real time menu that pops up. My guess is that will bring up a more "traditional" looting menu.

So once you select transfer you believe it will return to the Fallout 3 style of inventory system?

Yeah...sort of. There is a screenshot floating around somewhere showing it unless its been pulled down. It's in Spanish.

In order to transfer your items it has to bring up your item list. It does that while also showing the item list of whatever you are interacting with.

That's a good point. It's going to be weird trying to follow the person and simultaneously look through their item menu. Hopefully, the game will pause when you're pickpocketing, because otherwise it would just be a pain.

It would be kind of cool if when you pickpocket you pulled something random. You reach in there and pull out something; but you don't necessarily know what it is going to be.

Another thing I just thought of, what about when we reverse pickpocket and plant say a grenade? If that's in RT that will be difficult to pull off.

That sounds about right actually. I'm glad they made it that way. (If that's how they did it ofcourse)

If it is in real time, the ideal moment is when they are not moving. Might add a nice level of strategy to thievery.

Well, as we know.. NPC's have a tendency to walk somewhere and then stand around a bit. Instead of being able to pickpocket while they are moving you'll probably have to follow them around until they are alone and not moving.. It'll make it more difficult to pickpocket.. Probably a lot more difficult to reverse pickpocket.

Quite often npcs are walking around when you are trying to pickpocket from them, so I wonder how that will work when it's in real time... would it kick you out of the menu when they're out of range again? haha

Pickpocket was always extremely badly implemented in Bethesda games, with every failure always being a critical one (meaning that the Pickpocketee was always alerted to the Pickpocketer on failure), making training pickpocket effectively in TES games virtually impossible. Fallout was slightly better, in that you spent skill points instead of learning by doing, but it was still bad. I usually play thief-type characters in RPGs, but refrained from picking pockets in TES and the newer Fallout games and I don't have high hopes for pickpocket in F4, especially with real-time adding an additional layer of difficulty.

If there is a new element in pickpocketing that adds the challenge of moving targets, that would most definitely be the bee's knees for those interested in the art of stealth.

Warning Spoiler ahead:

Spoiler
The pickpocekt perk does not only work as a skill replacement, but only with perk 2 are you able to put a live grenade into the enemie's inventory. With perk 3 you can steal equipped weapons (no more reversepickpocket) Perk 4 will let you steal anything equipped (including armour it seems). Now that is a trick to pull off.
