Does it look "outdated"?

Post » Sat Jun 12, 2010 4:35 pm

Hmmm what you think? despite being 4 1/2 years old, i dont think it looks too shabby. Not that i'm a tech know it all... i'm the oppsosite, but recently i've heard few people say Oblivion is starting to show it's age etc. I play on the 360 and the only thing that gets on my nerves is the grass popping in 10ft in front of you all the time.

But yeah, i don't think it's really showing it's age..... what about you?

Nope it still looks as good as when I first played it, ( although since my system at the time did not come up to spec infact it looks better).

Plus with even simple mods you get something that looks like this http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g376/Indep/Ashkailai%20Oblivion%20pics/Oblivion2010-10-0500-08-41-23.jpg
So still great imo, better than some new releases no ones heard of advertising sponsered Sci-fi shows.

The npc's and player look a bit outdated to me. The world still looks great, and can be improved with mods.

To me, the graphics still blow me away. But I realize the game is older and it probably does look outdated compared to some newer games out there on the market. I could care less about this, personally....I grew up playing Adventure on the Atari 2600, Faxanadu and Zelda on the original NES, early versions of Final Fantasy, etc...you wanna talk about some shoddier graphics?

my game is heavily modded and it looks pretty good. the colors are a bit cartoony for my tastes but that was a game design choice. there are some youtube videos out there showing heavily modded oblivion games so you can see what they look like however it still isnt going to compare to crysis or far cry 2

Sure, it's four years old, but I still think the graphics are exceptional, and in RPG's graphics are far from the most important thing. Atleast in my books.

While there's certainly better graphics in other games these days, like Fallout having guys with beards instead of faces that just look like they're dirty, Oblivion is still a very good looking game. And if you have a PC with a decent video card, there's always texture packs to make it look even better.

Sure, it's 4 years old, but seeing as console technology hasn't changed in that 4 years, "showing its age" doesn't really mean much.

Looks are not as important to me as content. IMO Oblivion out shines any game for the last 5 years. To amend an ancient idiom...

Familiarity breeds content. :)

It looks great even vanilla, but with a few mods, you can make it look http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac239/powermapler/ScreenShot106.jpg

This was taken in game, with no added effects. Not too bad. I'm doing a playthrough on my PS3 right now. It's definitely a step back graphically, but the game is still gorgeous.

Looks great to me, have yet to see a better looking game on 360 or PC and its 4 years old. Although I haven't really bought many games since Oblivion came out except for FPS and NHL games, which aren't made to have insane graphics.

Those of you who are like me, who grew up playing D&D or some other pen/paper/dice RPG, where lead figureines, a sheet of hex paper, and sparse terrain props (we used to use the little trees from my brother's train set!) are simply blown away at the way these videogames are being made nowadays.

Yes, we've certainly come a long way since the days of Pool of Radiance haven't we? I played that one to death on my Commodore 64, along with the others of that series.

Ha ha Mine Craft looks AWESOME!

It's astounding, the way this little game has caught on. Minecraft is not even out of BETA yet and already it's reputed to have sold 400,00 copies. A group of Elder Scrollers have started a BGSF Minecraft server to play the game online: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119917-unofficial-minecraft-discussion-iix/

I still p&p rp a bit, but wargame quite often, I must say that the modern moulding and 3d design techniques on the figures is coming pretty close to crpg's in details Renee Gade.
If you add in convertion, and customisation it sometimes can exceed video games imo.

Belanos I spent most of my childhood on the 64 and 128, I wish I spent more time trying to combine my fantasy craze, and playing on the computer.
I see some still like the text games of yore though.

yeah I think it looks a little outdated, compared to a lot that's out there.
Not that I think the graphics are ugly or anything, they are anything but.

The graphics itself is still outstanding, even with stock textures. The only problem when you go about "graphics" (in its widest form) is the awkward "staring at the wall" animation...

There was one called Asylum that I just loved playing. It had a few basic graphics but was mainly just a text game with some really bizarre encounters. I never did manage to escape though.

I still remember the first one I tried, I was 12 or so at most, you started looking out into ocean back to a alcove, no clue what to do, no manual, the words I typed......
By oblivions graphics it was dire just the occasional scene of background, it does make me wish I had kept all the old computers though :violin: .

Vanilla Oblivion doesn't look bad, but I wouldn't say it still looks good. Modded Oblivion, however, still manages to http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/457645-1274337856.jpg against newer games.

Kewl! I have a friend whom I grew up playing D&D with who LOVES Star Craft, and now that Star Craft 2 is out, it's all he talks about sometimes! NOt sure if Mine Craft and Star Craft are associated or not...

Yes, I haven't been keeping up with any of this, but I can imagine what you're saying. I used to spend hours painting my figures! Some of them had some wicked designs on their little sheilds helmets, and weapons!
