Console players: is fallout on the console enjoyable?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 12:35 pm

One thing to consider is that since mods tend to stagger, and the creation kit isn't coming out till 2016, it will be awhile before the PC version can be significantly modded anyway. So if you are just going to play through the base game it shouldn't matter. Then a few months down the road, if you get your hands on a more powerful pc, perhaps you can do a playthrough on the pc version. By then more mods will be available, tested, and recommended, and you might even catch it for a weekend sale if you pay attention. I can't afford both a nee console and pc, so this is my strategy as of now. Getting an Xbox One on black friday hopefully.

I think PS4 is the best place to be.....none of the headaches of PC gaming, rock solid performance, grand everything....only downside is mods will take longer to get to PS4 but that's A-OK in my book because all the grand game-changing mods will need time and won't be out until at least a year after the game editor launches early next year so we'll likely get mods at the best time as the best mods will be coming out.

Console sales of this game will blow away the sales numbers of PCs.

So...you tell me. Is console gaming enjoyable?

I'm a long-time PC gamer and I generally prefer to game on PC - in fact, I didn't have a console until I got a 360 a couple years ago. Always been a keyboard/mouse gamer. Since getting the 360, I've played Fallout 3 on the 360 and enjoyed it very much. Coming from a PC gaming background, it's pretty nice to lounge on a couch and game on a large TV. I'm even managing to not totally svck using a controller.

If Bethesda's games weren't enjoyable on consoles, I'm sure they would have stopped making them for consoles years ago. If you like gaming on a console, I'm sure you'll find Bethesda's games enjoyable on a console. If you haven't gamed much on consoles before - like me - give it a try if you have the chance, it's a different type of gaming experience and just as enjoyable - in different ways - than gaming on a PC.

Works fine for me. Though when I build my PC I will probably switch over to that.

Ya I like console a lot more. Got all the games on PC and xbox and getting 4 on both as well. Xbox is a way better way to play for me. Just get the PC version to support them and for a year or two down the road when they got mods out. Even tho I guess that won't be a problem soon for xbox

I've never found it to be onerous, so yes, quite enjoyable.

There's something to be said for not having to struggle with hardware compatibility issues. :)

Yep. I prefer playing on console. This mainly has to do with my setup. For console games I play on a big t.v. with surround sound whilst sitting on a big fluffy couch. On the pc, I sit in a computer chair staring at a not so big monitor which is 3 feet from my face. Like other people have pointed out.. there's no guarantee that a pc game will perform well on your pc. My pc should be able to handle many games well. .. but some just don't seem to like my system. On console.. you don't have to worry at all about that stuff.

I played FO3 for hundreds of hours on PC trying different mods etc. When my PC broke and I went to a PS3 I got FO3 for that and got the Platinum trophy.

Even though it was odd at first you soon get used to whatever format your playing on and enjoy it as long as the game is good.

Fallout is more fun on console, sink into that couch and dissappear into no mans land.

I use an Xbox controller when I play PC games. Sometimes I forget that I am not playing on Xbox but on the PC.

By the by, to people talking about console gaming and sitting on the couch, playing on a big TV... Guess what I'm doing right now?

I'm sitting here in a comfy chair, feet up on a foot rest, keyboard on my lap, looking at a big screen TV with my PC display on it. You don't need a console to do those things nowadays most modern GPU have a HDMI out ;)

I could probably run this pretty well on my current PC, BUT, I'm going for the PS4 version, at least at first.

Although my computer is pretty nice, I played Alien: Isolation on it last, and while it played really well, I'm not real happy with my monitor at the moment (backlight bleed in dark scenes made me want to pull my hair out). Plus my home theater just has much better sound and a bigger picture.

I don't get console vs. PC wars, just because I think they both have their pros and cons. For Fallout I decided since I'm going to spend a lot of time there, I want to be comfy with a controller relaxing and enjoying the better sound system and the big screen, etc.

Who knows - eventually I may grab a Steam version if there are cooler mods or I decide I want to revisit on PC, but I expect I'll have a great time on the PS4.

Also, for PC, I always have to reboot, kill apps, etc. (as I use my PC for work and a lot of other things). I like the quick start 'er up and go action consoles deliver.

I'm not sure why there is an illusion that playing on PC means sitting at a small monitor.

I have my PC hooked up to my 55" Sony in the living room, I use my X1 controller for game's and a wireless logitech keyboard for browsing.... It's spot on.

Of course!

The only thing I can find a little fiddly is positioning objects freely in my houses e.g. making a Nuca Cola truck display using the 'grab' command. Might be completely different in F4 so I'll wait and see.

As always guys thank you for the responses. I have my setup in my room and I actually use my 36" LG TV for both the PS4 and the PC. I may not have the luxury of sinking into a couch but I do have a comfy bed just feet behind me. I really think I'm going to get it for the PS4.

Cheers again everyone for the replies!
