Where do shotguns fit in the perk tree?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:32 pm

Trying to find out where the shotgun fits in the perk tree? As far as I can tell, only automatic weapons perk will work for automatic shotguns. Pump action shotguns don't seem to fit anywhere. It's too bad there is not a dedicated shotgun perk... shoties are my fav.

I assume that all of the non-automatic shotguns would fall under the Rifleman perk. Certainly pump-actions would be in the same class as bolt-actions.

I had the same assumption... rifleman perk tree specifies the word "Rifle" though. Not non automatic "guns" but "rifle".

Rifleman perk would seem to be the logical choice except for that first line. "Keep your distance long and your kill-count high" Shotguns aren't distance weapons. .. you don't need perception for shotguns. Rifles are for precision shots. I would think shotguns would fall under Agility more than perception. There are also certainly automatic and semi-automatic shotguns. So, both commando and rifleman still could deal with shotguns although I find it strange that neither perk mentions them specifically.

A shotgun is a rifle, so it's obviously in Rifleman perk, seeing as none of the shotguns are automatic, that and shotguns in reality can hit pretty far away, 300meters with a slug is almost 1,000 feet away. That's pretty damn far.

Except scatterguns have smooth bores, and are not rifled. I can't speak for the conventional shotguns, but I know that you can use an automatic barrel and beam splitter on laser weapons, turning them into an automatic shotgun. That being said, the Rifleman perk may mention ranged attacks, but it specifies that it applies to non-automatic ranged weapons. Now the real question is where semi-automatics lie.

It could be they don't fall under any of the categories and are more powerful by default?

Shotguns have been confirmed as being treated as rifles on a loading screen that showed up on a leak stream...

Something is still a Ranged weapon if it is intended to be used at a distance from the intended target, unlike melee weapons which are used by striking someone with it naturaly. This means that even if the weapon in question is used at almost point blank, its still a ranged weapon.

Stupid way to put it, but the perk referencing ranged semi-automatic weapons, basicly means anything that is not automatic, but falls within the ranged weapon catagory.

No dedicated shot gun perks that I can find which is upsetting to say the least, but as others have announced they share other weapon related perks instead. I would have preferred they had their own little perks :(

Shotguns actually do have quite a bit of range in RL. Some can even have rifling though they are more specialized. So while shotguns are depicted as point blank guns they really do have a fair bit of accuracy. Nothing compared to a rifle.

Kinda neat we indirectly get the shotgun surgeon perk, since the rifleman perk ignores armour at higher ranks.

But yeah, for a regular shotgun it's rifleman, if we can put a pistol grip on it and wield one like the saw off in 3/NV it's gonna be gunslinger and if we can use a full auto one (and I would not be surprised if we do) its commando.

there are something like 110 non perk tree perks in the game from magazines so whose to say that shotgun perks don't exist? you could get them from mags

I was thinking that too, but the future is uncertain, fingers crossed magazines might have a few upgrades for shotguns

Well, full perk'd riot shotgun in NV was fairly overpowered, so I think they might try to avoid that. Although, maybe some of the special magazine perks might have to do with shotguns.
