Bethesda's Potential Success with The Railroad

Dude its a video game, calm down. If you really want to have a scientific discussion I'd suggest you do it on a science forum instead of one for a video game. Expecially when said video game is based on 1950s sci-fi science.

Also for someone who claims they're open to all kinds of viewpoints you sure are quick to get your panties in a bunch over his view being different then yours. Going so far as to condescendingly suggest he's never read your "scientific literature".

You seem to not care about a real discussion, just getting others to agree with you and showing off how "smart" you think you are.

It's not wholly a new or original concept.

For instance, I recall I, Robot by Isaac Asimov, who fathered the modern laws of robotics.

Wow, not what I was going for at all. I really am sorry if it came across as condescending, just trying to have a conversation and suggest some new ideas. I'm not upset with him, just having a conversation. If you'd like to participate, feel free, and I was more interested in how people felt about Bethesda's handling of the topic, not necessarily getting into a scientific debate on the reality of consciousness.

P.S. The reason I suggested he explore the scientific literature on his own wasn't to suggest I was more knowledgeable, but rather the opposite. I find people respond better to a new idea when presented by a third party than someone they already disagree with.

Yeah, gotta agree Storm "Dr.Chandra" Sculptor is taking this way to seriously. It's a video game, I will execute every soulless synth I come across 馃槀

Same here... If that's the MQ it truly is weak sauce...They should've just let Obsidian write the story...

I for one love the concept and love the fact that we're passionately arguing about it as if it were real.

I loved the geth subplot and really enjoyed cortana's arc throughout halo so i'm really looking forward to seeing how Bethesda handles the android/synth theme that seems to be a big part of fallout 4.

There were HUUUUUGE debates about mage freedom over on the BSN before the DAI got released but Bioware didn't utilize the drama nearly as much as they could have. I'm not sure themes like this are really something AAA game devs will focus on with any depth, it's niche and not necessarily any fun. Which is a shame from my perspective. The discussions that happen on the forum often wind up being more interesting than what takes place in the game.

No thanks. The people in Obsidian don't exactly impress me anymore. They've written some pretty painful plot lines in pillars of eternity and didn't exactly deliver anything iconic (worth remembering) therin either. The whole revisting a past life was, simply put, garbage. They succeeded in making a few NPCs/henchmen interesting though.

Then their game mechanics.... the only way I can surmise it is, 'trendy neckbeard'. I may have been able to overlook some of their writing flaws if they would have gotten this right,.

I think Bethesda's track record in regards to themes/plots within their titles has delivered an experience that no Obsidian game can match.

Aye I was there it was very interesting actually and exactly as you said in-game: Under utilized. Could Beth not cherry pick certain Obsidian writers for use on future projects? Can't help but think (not that this is an original idea at all) a Fallout game with Beth's world building and Obsidians writing would just be the pinnacle of modern post apocalyptic gaming....yo.

I'll give it to Bethesda, somehow their sub-plots and character backgrounds are written in a very mature way. Ulfric was the definition of a great leader with greater than life personality yet he was one of the unique type of leaders for whom being selfish and being idealist was the same thing and serving the same purpose. He wasn't a great general, wasn't a legendary warrior yet he's was coming from a breed that could do great or/and terrible things by leading his people.

So i think Bethesda may come up with good background plot with synths.

While it's a valid argument that any sentient being with will to live is not different than a human being and deserves the same rights; it's also a valid argument that there is matter of struggle for existence between species. Human kind simply destroyed most of the animal life and left the rest at the brink of extinction. For example there are 20.000 lions left in the world and they're not a food source or competitor for food; they're simply irrelevant to us humans, so they're dying out.

So any sentient race introduced is also a case againts survival of humanity. Just letting them be, may lead to human extinction in the future. Because they follow a different evolution path which is far more efficent and even more rapid, only thing that is quick enough to oppose them is the speed of our technological advancement which is halted for good in Fallout universe.
