Names are not gender restricted at all, you can name your male character Charlette and it will work just fine, might sound stupid but it will work.(confirmed on sites with leaks)

Ha.

It amuses me that I can play as

  • Deckard, or
  • Grognak

And it does not surprise me in the least that I can not play as

  • Adolf
  • Homer, or
  • Jesus

Honestly there's nothing confirmed yet. You can probably Google 1000 of the most popular names of both genders and you're probably on the right track.

All the overwhelming evidence that only Codsworth says your name and you still "seriously doubt" it? Alright

Wow, that's a good amount of common names that can't be said. Beth, Chuck, Jesse, Lisa, Nick, Rachel, Victor, hell, not even Albert to make that reference within their very own series. These are some rather simple names, and if they didn't make it into the game, I have a lot of doubts on the variety of names that can be said.

I don't think it sounds stupid given the fact I want one of my chars to have a traditionally male name. And I'm not the only one.

Also confirmed with leaks is kinda flimsy don't you think?

I wonder if it accounts for different spellings, like for exemple one of the names I use for characters is Katherine, it'd be a bummer if the name is the list but the robot (and maybe other NPCs) doesn't say it just because I spelled it with a K instead of a C

I've never met anyone called Chuck, Jesse, or Victor.

And I've met folk named Chuck and Jesse. Funny how that works.

Again though, they're all fairly simply names along with plenty of more on that reddit link. Just odd they can't manage to implement those names but they can't pass on ones like Rocky (or Rock for that matter) or Assface.

Like others have said, there's a guy on reddit testing names already. I've been making a list of them on Google's Web excel or whatever it was called. I'm opening it for everyone to view and edit on Monday when I get home so everyone can check the list AND add their own findings to it.

Some of those names don't look "50s" to me. That current list doesn't have a couple of female names I wanted to name my characters. Guess I'll go with a name on the list.

Happy to see my own name on the list. Thankfully they probably put it there in case somebody wanted to pretend to be the dad from Fallout 3.. I might do Deckard though because I love me some Blade Runner (Sebastian may be another reference).

Name trends change. Don't forget that the Fallout universe had 120 years pass between their 1950s and the bombs falling. The name Kelley was majority male until the mid-50s. Ashleigh was majority male until the mid-60s. Madison didn't become a girl's name until the mid-80s. Quinn only became a majority female name after Glee popularized it in 2010. My point is that it's far better to use the names that gamers actually have now than what was popular in the 50s, especially since naming trends have had ~320 years to change in the Fallout Universe. Also, I wouldn't assume that the names you wanted aren't on the list. In case you hadn't noticed, that list was nowhere near 1,000 names long. Those were just names that someone who got an early copy tested out.
