Will Fallout 4 live up to all the hype?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:01 am

Considering the last time Bethesda has released a really good game was thirteen years ago? Considering that they have clearly continued their trend of stripping away RPG elements in favor of more action? No, it won't. After the monumental disappointment that was Skyrim, I won't pay more than $10 for a Bethesda game. By the time FO4 is $10, I should have a pretty good idea what's wrong with it.

The hype of the masses, hell no. My personal hype, HELL YES!!!! I see so many people on this forum nit picking this, nit picking that. It seems that maybe 25% of the Fallout "fans" seem to trully appreciate the new innovations that made F3/NV feel stale and carbon copies of what has already been seen. Sure they are not really original when you compare them to other games, but what is the point of comparing fallout games to non-fallout games? So many comparing TW3, MGSV, and even a VERY, VERY few making Minecraft comparisons, Friggin MINECRAFT LOL. I am not saying everything is perfect and things could not be improved, but so can every game ever made be improved in some light. Overall the hype is what you make it, I know excatly what I wanted out of a new Fallout game. If you would of asked me before any info was released, I guarentee 99% of fans would not of even come close to all the new amazing things put into this new fallout.

So I will do a little list for myself of new things I was wanting with no knowledge of what we know now.

1. Way better shooting mechanics. Check

2. Hopefully a not lackluster feeling ending. Cant know yet OFC

3. Better leveling system. DOUBLE CHECK

THe only thing IMO they did a back step on was the dialogue system, and only because I feel the old system was fine. Why fix what is not broken. So in the end they drastically improved on everything I wanted in a new Fallout. I just can not stand the amount of ridicule the game is receiving and its not even out yet. Leaks are not concrete ither, those things seen before release are subject to change through community feedback and patch integration.

Sorry for the mini essay, but it's ither all this new Fallout fans that are making all the vets look bad, but this game is shaping up to be AMAZING from what I have seen. See you guys in the wasteland :disguise:

To be honest I'm not sure how much more Bethesda could advertise Fallout 4.Whether it's official Fallout bear, a Fallout lootcrate, a live action TV advertisemant, Fallout inspired cars in Forza, and buses in London being branded with Fallout 4.
They've engendered a lot of hype, with and without the fanbase.

As for the OP. It all depends on one's perceptions, if you're expecting a revolution RPG that does something drastically different from their previous game, you may end up disappointed. But if you're expecting another great Bethesda game your expectations may even be surpassed with Fallout 4.

I'm personally going into this not as a Fallout game (because it won't live up to my notions of what the series represents), but as another enjoyable journey through Bethesda's gaming ethos.

Sorry, I haven't seen any of those aside from the Fallout beer, but then I'm not actually in England so maybe that might be a reason why. I just haven't been seeing that hype train. Maybe I just don't want to, after all, I had a bellyful of that with Skyrim. I've not really been in the mood for a repeat of that experience.

I honestly don't care. My own personal enjoyment of a product I paid for is paramount, not some kind of hype or advertising.

Aside from YouTube, I really haven't seen anything though, just the crazy people here in the forums.

Bethesda amazed me with Morrowind, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim. And I was able to eventually get past my faults with Oblivion and enjoy it just as much on its own terms.

Fallout 4 has a element that I think might render it into a Oblivion situation, the whole voice stuff. But even with me getting a slightly flawed version of something that has completely blown me out of my seat 4 out of 6 times, they're doing a hell of a lot better than any other developer I can think of.

The opposite usually happens from what I've seen. When something is extremely hyped it receives tons more criticism from those who got caught in the hype than it deserves. People always get disappointed and it sends them over the edge. The entire world worships Bethesda now, so I have no idea how this will turn out. Either the wait has got people so excited that this will be exciting regardless because they don't know what to expect, or so much will be expected of it that loads of people will hate it and more people than ever will be saying "The last Fallout game was better!" It seems like most people are most disappointed with the game after the one they're introduced to in Elder Scrolls, so considering the amount of fans Bethesda has, I have no idea whether people just won't care or if Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls VI will create a bigger batch of hipsters, saying that the last game was better, than ever before.

Edit: People introduced through Morrowind usually have Oblivion as their least favourite and people who were introduced through Oblivion usually have Skyrim as their least favourite. With the amount of fans brought in by Fallout 3 and Skyrim, who knows what could have. They might not care enough to be disappointed or there might be tens of thousands of people complaining that it isn't as good as 3.

I was intorduced to TeS with oblivion, but I liked skyrim more. Oblivion was a bit too clunky for me, especially the magic was kind of awkward. Some quests where better in oblivion, like the dark brotherhood stuff, but I prefer a world that feels good, to individual quests,

Oh, naturally, I'm just commenting on what I've seen overall. I expect there to be quite a number of exceptions to the case.

In immortal words of Todd Howard: "You don't know if our game will be good. You don't know if you will like our game. But you know for sure that it will be something epic!" (well, it wasn't a correct quote but I listened to that video many years ago...)

All in all, I have no doubts I will have some criticisms. But even so, I have no doubts that I will enjoy the game just because of Beth's formula which is a big hit with me.

No. Only because people speculate way to much and over hype themselves.

I hope... but if not there is always the dishonest [censored] that will say the game lived up to the hype.

Actualy one of those who did get introduced to TES by Morrowind, and while i like that one the best, both oblivion and skyrim ar sort of on equal terms for me. Skyrim had the better graphics and in some regards better mechanics/gameplay, Oblivion had a more interesting MQ, aswell as better written guild quests (Skyrims guilds were rather bland and short).

Skyrim surpassed my expectations (which were really high) I'm hoping that Fallout 4 will continue that trend.

Yh, but the problem for many is that after years of waiting they let their hype consume them. Bethesda games are years apart, which is lots of time for someone who hasn't experience the wait and excitement before to get drawn in. Skyrim was the biggest disappointment of my life in media, and it was entirely my fault. I can't see it happening again.

Under all my years of playing Fallout and TES games they have never let me down. Loved every minute of them. Many people are complaining about the shooting mechanics in FO3, but I had no problem with them at all.

Am I a really devoted fan? Probably, but I have no doubt FO4 will live up to my personal hype.

Just noticed the auto-correct. "Devoted fan", good one.

I am really hoping that it lives up to the hype. Fallout 3 was still my favorite game over the last ten years so that is huge shoes that it hopes to fill in my eyes.

Low detail textures and bland animation during dialogue has me a little worried but everything else looks superb.

Watched a leaked video yesterday and the downtown Boston area looked amazing. Rage was a disappointment with the low resolution textures but I will say that Fallout looks one hundred times better than that. So I still have fingers crossed.

I plan to get over 400 hours out of the vanilla game. But with mods coming as well, who knows?

Will it live to my own hype, yes 100%+. Will it live to everyone elses, probably not, but a large portion will have a lot of fun, and so will I. Even got the Turtle Beach XO FOUR Stealth for my Xbox One to have those game sounds explode with the Bass Boost enhancement for Fallout 4. I would have gotton a Surround Sound headset, could not afford it sadly. I am rather impressed with it so far as it seems to be a big jump from the Microsoft Stereo Headset. I loved the entirety of Fallout 3 it actually gave me shivvers in my spine all the way through in a good way knowing the life and world your char used to know is gone. I hope Fallout 4 does the same thing as it will make it a title to remember. Watching the launch trailer actually did give me that feeling. So yes I AM HYPEDDDD!!!!

No. The hype for BGS games is always way over the top. It has been that way since after Morrowind. That being said, BGS makes incredibly fun games that will last hundreds of hours, paritcularly with mods. Even if the story isn't that great (probably won't be given BGS hasn't done a great story since Morrowind), mods coming to console alone will make Fallout 4 a huge success. Although, I don't think mods will do nearly as well on consoles as BGS thinks. PC gamers have greater longevity with their titles. Console gamers jump from one game to the next and never stop. Not to mention, it can take years for some of the best mods to be made. I don't expect many on consoles, regardless of mods, to keep playing Fallout 4 a year after release unless official DLC is being released.
