You can ONLY build a shack!?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:01 pm

So I love the game.

Bad news is I can only seem to build a craptastic looking building. It is a POS shack no matter how large it is.

Did people all of the sudden forget how to use bricks, stone, and drywall? Yet there are fusion cores and energy blasters...

Am I missing something? Are there options for a nicer looking building later on?

And before someone says "oh don't worry it will be modded in." I am on Xbox and I can guarantee a working great mod that does the sleeker buildings won't be out for a long long time.

P.S. (I'm not trolling I do love the game... I am simply perplexed or maybe an idiot and missing something simple.)

I may be misremembering this, but didn't they say you could 'level' up on what you can build and potentially build better houses? Don't quote me on this.

FYI .. The radiation storms can also get you while you are inside your shack.. Not sure if this is a bug or Bethesda overlooked it. I assume this is because the buildings have so many darn holes in them :/ (I'm talking a closed building).

I mean, I'm no construction wunderkin here, but it strikes me out protagonist is pretty far ahead of the curve, considering they can shoot, drive Power Armor, a gunsmith, an armorer, and a carpenter of some skill.

Slapping together some boxes for a shelter seem acceptable, out of the gate. I can wait on my two story dream home.

Hmmm, I wonder if you could build a small storm shelter.

I'm thinking you can unlock more options as you go along. Lots of furniture and other things are missing. But I don't know. It definitely feels like at the beginning of the game we are working with "starter" options.

From what I understand, there's a magazine you can collect that gives you new things to build - but none of them are non-crappy walls.

I had an radiation storm where I hide in the garage where you found dogmeat, no close-able doors so I had to stay in the back.

Better looking walls is an obvious mod.

I'm 5 hours in and haven't seen a radiation storm yet. :sadvaultboy:

But yeah, if they aren't somehow available in the base game, pre-war assets are going to be added to the crafting system with a mod pretty quick.

Does anyone know to not get hit by storms inside your own home?

Dude I did right when I got to the first place you can build. I got lucky and found a storm cellar to hide in so I didn't die.

Radiation is not like rain. It can go through walls, technically. Not sure how the "science" of them works in game.

There are magazines that give you new building options, but dont ask how many there really are. Maybe 10, maybe 20 or maybe 50? :D
