Pip Boy App?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 7:44 am

finally got the game downloaded and installed, then realized while tinkering in the settings that there's a smartphone app available to tie into the game....I figured I'd give it a try and downloaded it, told it to connect to PC, it finds my IP address, then, immediately says it's connected, then switches to say that it can't connect to the app....please advise...there are no firewalls running on the PC itself (figured that might be a problem), and antivirus isn't realtime scanning/blocking it...why can't the app connect to the game?

tips? pointers?

you need to be on the same wifi which is bad for me cause my wifi doesn't work so I just wire direct to the box and use data on my phone.

perhaps I wasn't clear enough on that....

-same wifi network

-iOS 9.x.x (current version)

-win7 (fully updated)

-app sees game, displays PC's IP address, when you click to connect, it says connection successful, then when it tries to load whatever, it drops to no connection available screen.

This may be a stupid question, as I doubt you would be on here if it wasn't the case, but have you actually acquired the pip-boy in the game?

Just guessing, but there is an option in Settings to enable the Pip Boy app. I assume that's toggled on?

Further thoughts: the computer doesn't have incoming traffic issues, it's also running 2 remote file access servers, plex media server, teamspeak server, and a few other server type apps, and all were temporarily killed just to see if maybe one was conflicting with a port that the app was looking for...

Affirmative, that's why it sees it to try to connect...

I have to be honest with you - you're not really missing out. It is just the pip-boy on your iPad. If anything, using it breaks immersion. It is nowhere near as impressive as the app for, say, GTAV. If you can't get it working, really don't worry about it.

Ahh but that shouldn't matter, y'know? If they say it's there, it should work, hell, I'd be in happily just for the ability to pull the map up and run fast travels and/or set markers, or change active quests...and for those who ordered the pip-boy edition, this app and its intended functionality is pretty much key to getting your money's worth out of the bigger version...

I hadn't thought about it, so tried it again just now - and bing - it worked.

I just had the game active/running. Launched the PipBoy app, it then found the IP address of the PC (it didn't see any devices previously), I upon selecting that IP it started. It is actually handy, especially for mapping in some spots.

So, it does work - wish I could tell you more.

ok, so here's further oddity.... got to tinkering with it again tonight, and changed the setting off, restarted the game, turned it back on, restarted again, and prior to loading into a save, it connects and changes to the color that I'd set, and is functional, the second my save loads up, I'm back to "Connection Error" this makes me think it's something jacked up with my save game....which, tbh, makes me less than happy....

You need to go into Preferences in your Xbox settings and find something that says "Enable all smartglass connections" or words to that effect. Then your pip boy app should connect. I had the same issue until I checked this box in the Xbox settings. Now my pipboy app works fine!

Have fun!
