Every time I tried to change the appearance of my character at the surgeon the game or start a new characterthe game would CTD without error code as soon as the looks menu had loaded. This also sometimes happened after a few seconds / minutes when creating a new character. Since the Bethesda engine normally is pretty strong and stable I made an attempt to find what caused this. After a lot of restarting, modifying ini's I traced it to the textures map. A lot more searching, testing etc etc later I found out there was a conflicting set of files.

So,....... how to fix this?

Go to your install folder, go into Data, and open the Textures folder and into Interface (......\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Textures\Interface) Cut or delete the folder named CharacterGen and start the game. It should no longer crash (tried new char, surgeon, console command "showlooksmenu 00000014 1" and no more issues)
