Help defending Settlements --- Weirdness -SPOILERS-

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:47 am

Has anyone else experienced this oddity?

Occasionally settlements become attacked and are given an entry in the Miscellaneous section of the quests under the Data-Quests entry in the Pip boy.

I have notice a few times that when fast traveling to a settlement that says it needs defending, in my case it is the Sun-Shine Tidings Co-op, some weird things can occur. Sometimes the attack doesn't occur and repeated fast traveling sometimes solves it. In my case, when i first fast traveled there was an attack but after defeating the invading enemy the quest did not complete. I tried talking to all the resident but it just doesn't do any good.

Fast traveling to a new location just says the quest failed.

Any ideas? I am sure i defeated the invading enemy already.

SOOOOOOOOO other are experiencing the same problems!

saw this over on this thread http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1549904-building-fences-around-settlements/page-2#entry24504768

this completely the problem i am running into. For some reason these miscellaneous quest to "defend x settlement" will sometimes fail to start AND/OR says quest failed even if you kill all of the invaders successfully. HUGE bug going on here :(

well since i enjoying this nice conversation between me myself and i, and around 250 people have viewed this thread and not commented :(, i will continue as a tutorial of what i find out.

Up next,

i found a temporary fix that will keep all the settlers alive at least, even if you are forced to fail the quest because of this bug.

Find a new settlement with no one in it.

Stock it with 20 or so empty beds.

DO NOT put up a recruitment beacon, you want this thing to remain empty at all times.

If the above bug DOES strike you then go to the settlement and reassign all settler to this "Buffer" settlement.

Let the quest fail bug occur, your settlers survive in the new settlement.

Go to the new settlement and reassign them back to the original settlement.

Congrats! You have at least kept them alive!

More importantly you defeated a Bethesda bug with ingenuity!
