*SPOILERS* regarding VATS - anyone else watching leaks

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:44 am

Anyone else watching leaked stuff feel like VATS is now a big disadvantage?

I've been watching someone streaming it yesterday, today, going right now too, and it really looks like VATS is pointless. The player has used VATS many times which results in a lot of misses, then comes out of VATS and seems to hit almost every time blowing through enemies pretty easily.

Vats is good if you put perks into accuracy ect... If not you miss a lot. It has always been like this.

It's a basic problem of putting an fps mechanic into an rpg setting. Even if your character is supposed to svck with guns and every bullet shot is based on your characters abilities.. we the player have the ability to adjust our aim to make up for the characters supposed lack of skill. I assume the only way they can really have it make a difference is to adjust the amount of damage a bullet causes. So maybe in vats you cause greater damage with hits.. but miss alot. And in real time you hit a lot but cause less damage. I don't know.

Also, dont' forget that whoever you watched could be playing the game on the easiest difficulty. (because they are actually a reviewer illegally showing off their footage and they still have a deadline to get through the game so they can write their review.)

Maybe my memory is off but I recall missing a fair bit outside of VATS in past games. Now it seems like you can't miss, like it's not a blended system anymore but 2 completely different systems.

Because I feel like it, not sure what you want me to say. :)

If you're talking about the same video I'm thinking about, that was a low level character. VATS will probably be a lot more effective with the appropriate perks. And he really didn't miss all that much.

I told myself that I would wait and not watch any leaked footage... Kind of like during the holidays when I tell myself I won't eat super unhealthy foods... I can't help it :)

It's called self control! Do what I do during the holidays, hide it from everyone so they can't eat it! Than you can nibble on it and take your time to enjoy it!

Although it's likely that this is going to get locked...the player in question may be playing like a schmuck and aiming for the head despite barely having a chance to hit...and not investing in luck or agility much.

VATS is definitely useful, but only if you spec your character for it.

from the perk and stat info if you want to be effective in vats you need high perception, agility and luck for both the perks in those trees and the passive stat boosts each provides.

Locked, there are other spoiler threads, so I didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

Yes a lot of the percentage chances for hits were low, so it's working the way it's supposed to and makes sense. It just feels like shooting as an FPS is now far better than VATS and I didn't remember it being that way in Fallout 3/NV.

Yes, however, you're talking specifically about leaked gameplay. The mods look down on that...anyway, as I said, the individual in question probably wasn't using it all that well. For him, pure run'n gun gameplay would have been best...however, with high luck, agility, perception, and endurance, I'd be willing to bet that VATS is actually extremely powerful.

in fallout 3 vats was overpowered and the shooting mechanics were terrible. They seem to have improved f4's shooting mechanics quite alot and going off the perks affecting vats it should be powerful if your specced for it. My hope is that both vats and fps/tps play-styles will be viable and fun.
