Old bug, but old fixes don't work: CTD on New game start : Fallout: New Vegas

Hey there, I need some help. I tried customer service but they basicly said "look at the forum" after I said I already tried the standard fix.

I have the known bug that my PC crashes to desktop when I start a new game. It happens after the intro video, right in the middle of (or the end of) the first time you see the roulette wheel spin on the loading screen.
The error message is simply that Fallout is no longer working.

I run the game through Steam. Both Steam and the Fallout exe are run as administrator. I've tried running in compatibility mode for Vista, verifying game cache (which each time keeps coming up with 1 file that needs to be reacquired), deleting all ini files (from MyGames folder and the Steamapps folder) and reacquiring them through verifying game cache, cutting the intro sequence out of the ini files and any combination of the above.

Any other ideas?

Are you using Asus Gamer OSD or DisplayLink software? Asus SMart Doctor or some other overclocking software?

Bethesda CS is terrible. They should know this stuff by now.

Where is the game installed. If it is installed in the programs folder the game might have issues, especially if you are using mods. If you are using mods please post the mods you are using and the load order. Also check to see if your anti-virus program is allowing the game to access the system since some anti-virus programs will block games from accessing the system.

Also your video card drivers are quite old. I do not think that is what is causing the issue.

Thanks Jasper: apparently yes. But when shut down I still get the same error after rebooting the game. Doesn't seem necessary, but do I need to keep them from starting up altogether and/or reinstall the game?
I'm not using any mods. I made sure AV is not an issue. It's from Steam, so it's in the SteamApps folder mostly, with some documentation and settings in C:\Users\Eskurian\Documents\My Games\Fallout3.

OKso you are using gamerOSD? IF so you need to uninstall it. Same with displaylink.
