DISCLAIMER:
Now I posted this on a thread around a year or so ago, but I wanted to share it with you guys once more!!
(On top of that, I was and somewhat still am actually thinking of sending in this idea to Bethesda to see what they think of this concept).
As always, please be civil and polite when commenting! Thank you!
END OF DISCLAIMER!
As far as I have played the Elder Scrolls games, read and kept up with the entirety of the franchise itself and the fact that I have read so many topics and comments on the forums about the Elder Scrolls series story wise, I will definitely say that given the lore from the Merethic Era all the way to the Fourth Era, alot of stuff in the Elder Scrolls Universe has changed ALOT!
In the Fourth Era alone, we saw most of Morrowind get destroyed and turn into an uninhabitable ash wasteland due to Red Mountain Erupting and the city of Winterhold in Skyrim get destroyed with only the College of Winterhold remaining intact. That alone is a massive change in climate and terrain in just the first two centuries of the new Era; don't even get me started on the political changes that have occured.
Let's not forget how much stuff changed in the Merethic, First and Second Era's when it comes to climate, terrain as well as politics and demographics (I.E. Men taking over and driving out the Mer, Dwarves going extinct and numerous changes that occurred in Cyrodiil.)
With all that being said, I honestly think that the continent of Atmora would be the best location for the next Elder Scrolls game.
Reasons:
1. With all that I stated above, I believe it would be awesome if the next Elder Scrolls game shows or mentions Northern Tamriel and Akvir getting warmer.
2. I honestly believe that if Elder Scrolls VI is to be set in Atmora it would be a GREAT twist to find out that Atmora, contrary to what people have heard and read about it, actually still does have life and humans living there (even if it is a small population of them), much like Skaal on the Island of Solsteim.
3. Adding to the twist, it would also be cool to find out and witness the continent of Atmora warming up as the game goes on, (much like how Morrowind changed as the Fourth Era went on starting with the Eruption of Red Mountain.) and finding out that just like with what happened with Red Mountain (which was caused by the Dark Elven Ministry of Truth), you find out that a force of some kind, may it be the Thalmor or a Deadric Prince causing Atmora to warm up.
4. On top of what I have listed so far, it would be more awesome to find out that Atmora actually was the long lost Elven continent Aldmeris all along.
5. Finally (Now do not freak out about this concept), just like in World of Warcraft with Northrend (which is in all sense the WoW version of Atmora btw) , it would be even greater to find out that there are in fact hidden oasis's in Atmora along with a large taiga like oasis that look a little like a mix between Howling Fjord and the Borean Tundra in WOW's continent, Northrend. Then as the game goes on, Atmora goes through phases from being for the most part frozen with the shores being tundra like to being more lush and green and for the most part the new Skyrim in the sense of climate and terrain.
So there you have it. Akvir seems epic and all, but I can honestly see that continent any moment now being introduced in ESO as a major PVE expansion (unfortunately!).
Hence why I believe that Atmora being the next setting for the next major installment for Elder Scrolls, may it be Elder Scrolls VI, VII or even Elder Scrolls IX for that matter. Because it would be a game massive game changer and it would be interesting to see for the first time, the entire terrain of a place/setting of an Elder Scrolls game alter on a massive scale as the game goes on.
Tell me your thoughts everyone. May it be that you either agree or disagree with what I just said is entirely up to you of course.
EDIT: Also, remember one thing. In the World of Warcraft franchise's case, it was originally established that the continent of Northrend was a lush and green continent that froze over completely and in Warcraft III, it showed Northrend as a frozen wasteland and nothing more. Then, when the expansion Wrath of the Litch King was released, it showed an unexpected twist (or a recton) which was the fact that Northrend wasn't entirely a frozen wasteland like Antarctica and instead had large temperate areas known as Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills.
So with that said, Bethesda for all we know could pull the exact same thing with the lore of Atmora like how Blizzard did with Northrend, so keep that in mind!
