It's been 5 years since my mod recommendations list updated

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 6:45 am

Hello! :wavey:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1155980-povuholos-tomorrowind-a-mod-recommendations-list-for-today/ was a list I wrote at the end of 2010. It featured cool mods, both popular and obscure, from the earlier days of the modding community up to the start of 2011. Unfortunately a ton of links were broken when Planet Elder Scrolls closed its doors. Because of that, and because you guys have been making more cool stuff in the last 5 years, I'm bringing it back.

But I could use some help! I think I've kept a pretty close eye on what's been going on here, but who knows what cool mods I missed out on in the last five years! For now I mainly want to focus on mods that aren't graphics mods, but all recommendations are welcome! Even stuff from before 2011. I've been looking at DarkElfGuy's channel for inspiration as well.

A couple mods that I'm going to look into: Sotha Sil Expanded, Dreamers Expansion, The Sable Dragon, Treasure Maps, Imperial Presence, Morrowind Rebirth,Vegtabills Threads of the Webspinner, Wyrmhaven, The Undead and JiFFY Morrowind UI Revamped.

Sounds like a good idea! There's always a ton of players that are looking for recommendations :)

Let me know if you have any questions regarding Morrowind Rebirth!

I think Mackom's Races Redone series is well worth a look : http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/users/3222944/?tb=mods&pUp=1

Mr.Magick adapted hairs from Westly's for most of Mackom's replacers : http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/users/75950/?tb=mods&pUp=1

Borok did the same for the two races Mr.Magick didn't do : http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/users/75950/?tb=mods&pUp=1

Then there is Weye's Argonians : http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43766/?

And last but not least ashiraniir's Pluginless Khajiit Head Pack: http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43110/? (I particularly reccomend the whiskers variation :) ).

Edit: I've just noticed that abot has posted a small fix (still requires the main file from nexus!) for Pluginless Khajiit Head Pack, you can get it here : http://abitoftaste.altervista.org/morrowind/index.php?option=downloads&task=info&id=68&Itemid=50&-Pluginless-Khajiit-Head-Pack-Talk-Blink-Fix

Also I heartily recommend pretty much everthing that abot has posted on that site :)

Artorius.

Here's several mods released in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1496008-mod-showcase-what-did-you-release-on-2013/ and http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1512796-mod-showcase-what-did-you-release-on-2014/. I'm pretty sure there is a similar thread for 2012, but I'm having trouble finding it with the broken search in the forum. Found it. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1427396-show-us-what-you-have-released-2012/

Thank you for these links. At least two from the 2012 thread have found a lasting place on my load order, that I otherwise hadn't and probably wouldn't have stumbled upon.

I have nothing useful to add.
I just wanted to say I'd love to see your updated list Povuholo.

I've consulted your list countless times over the years. It helped me a great deal.

Am plotting a new build after my laptop gagged and passed out from some sneaky update or other.

There's still so many cool things going on here.
Would be awesome to have an updated list.

I love making lists even more than reading them, so here you go.

Graphics - Textures

I'm not a big fan of the retextures that've been done for Morrowind so far. mikeandike's efforts, though, are just too good to be missed:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43915/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43091/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43083/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/users/3222944/?tb=mods&pUp=1 has been mentioned before here. The only head replacer worth trying, imho. Made from scratch but true to vanilla.

If you include this in your list, make sure you also include the various hair replacers that adopt the vanilla hair styles to MacKom's meshes.

Graphics - Meshes

Another modder with a great attention to detail is PeterBritt. He's recently done amazing, vanilla-friendly remakes of the Nix-Hound and Cliffracer:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43620/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43925/? (with transparent wings!)

The https://sketchfab.com/models/6dde89fa6bea48299fe8c55626f2a2e4 he's included are bound to make you drool. Includes fresh textures as well.

A few mods that greatly improve on weapon meshes. Wouldn't play without them:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43120/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43484/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43077/?, which builds on http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/34844/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/34863/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/29906/?

An older mod that's done the same for armour:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/34588/?

You could also count that as a mesh fixer for Better Bodies. I'll leave it up to you if you want to add more of those.

General Fixes - Meshes

There are quite a few mesh collections out there, which contain bug fixes as well as general improvements. Since there's a lot of overlap, I'll list them here in the order I load them in.

http://mw.modhistory.com/download-90-13384 (this version's newer than the one on Nexus)

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42343/?

http://mw.modhistory.com/download-90-6088

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42343/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43266/?

There's more of those out there but it starts to get real muddy with a lot of files overlapping.

Also: http://www.fullrest.ru/files/Complete_Armor_Joints, http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/18108/?, both of which are included in http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42509/? (another BB mesh fixer).

Bug Fixes

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43808/?, an obscure typo correction

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43828/?, does some stuff that the MPP doesn't

Additions

mikeandike is/are also doing a great series of mods that, essentially, beautifies the towns of Morrowind by adding buildings that aren't reachable.

This is the latest in the series: http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43939/?.

http://stuporstar.sarahdimento.com is still alive and kicking, but your link needs an update.

Miscellaneous Interesting Stuff

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/1415/? finally puts all your ingredients in a bag

http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=1300 does the same for keys

http://adul.net/?p=dl_mwmods_take_gold lets you loot just the gold from a container by assigning a hotkey

http://adul.net/?p=dl_mwmods_weapon_charge_indicator does what it says on the tin

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43140/?, in the mean time, has been improved by a guy on Nexus. So you might wanna update your link.

http://mw.modhistory.com/download-26-2604, imho the best critter and Cliffracer pacifier out there. Creatures will still attack if you stay in their aura for too long.

And there's still more! But this should do it for now.

A lot more of your links are dead by the way, courtesy of Planet Elder Scrolls. I think you could find most of them back on http://mw.modhistory.com though. http://mw.modhistory.com/download-44-10088 for example.

I've looked at your list many many times over the years. Not recently since I haven't set up another playable game in a while... but I'm excited to hear that you're working on an update.

To toot my own horn, I have a couple "recent" releases I think could potentially fit:

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43275/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43269/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43527/

And a couple mods which caught my eye recently.

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43839/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43814/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42936/? - replaces the generic Daedric text "Woe Upon You" that appears in most scrolls with something specific

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42719/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43022/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43733/?

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43635/? - great quest mod which you may have seen already in Darkelfguy's showcase

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42685/? - Colt17 did a sweet expansion on a mudcrab mod I made

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43481/? - makes a visual effect for the "flies" sound around corpses

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42830/? - random NPCs to fight. might not fit your list, but I find it very enjoyable

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43608/? - house mod

http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43561/?

Thanks for sharing that! It'd fit perfectly with http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42454/?, which adds a small scroll with Daedric character translations to the in-game Daedric scrolls. JiFFY Morrowind UI even has a compatibility patch for it, Povuholo.

Yes. YES.

In addition to MacKom's, there's also http://download.fliggerty.com/download-127-874. While I admire the quality of MacKom's heads, I feel like Westly's blend into the game better, especially with heads added by other mods. Also, http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Kateri.htm has been updated since 2011.

And, shameless self promotion, should you need a mod to allow you to donate money to the Tribunal Temple or Nine Divines for roleplay reasons or just to unburden yourself of some funds, you can check out "Alms for ALMSIVI," linked in my signature. ;)

Return to III - Morrowind
