Great Houses like in Morrowind

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 6:55 am

There are mods who represent Great Houses, like in Morrowind, in Oblivion? I want to make an new install of Oblivion but after I played again Morrowind I will miss this feature of realm ..... Oblivion seems to be somehow simplistic without all this level of game.

That's a no-no to even mention that mod on these forums since it's a restricted topic. I can hear Rohugh's steps coming this way to lock this thread or Pluto who is sneaking in here and do the same thing and close this discussion.

EDIT: Reported.

Being very fond of Morrowind myself, I think I understand what you're looking for and it's not something that would necessarily cause alarm from the moderators.

If I'm right, all you want is a mod that sets up joinable factions like the Great Houses of Morrowind. Or, brings the idea and the Great House factions themselves to Cyradiil. Am I correct?

If so, there are still problems. Not in mod building, as I'm pretty sure our modders could handle that. But, it would present near insurmountable problems in game lore. The Morrowind Great Houses were set up (in historical lore) as a ruling council for the province and, outside of Hlaalu House, are fiercely opposed to everything Imperial or Empirish. And, Cyradiil IS the Empire - home of the Imperials and the Emperor himself. Since the Imperials and the natives of the other provinces don't have a similar backstory of such ruling bodies and since Dunmer are about as trusted in Cyradiil as Imperials are in Morrowind, it would take a lot of re-writing of lore to introduce their House councils to Cyradiil. Besides which, they would have no power here and they would probably be viewed as seditious.

Cyradiil does have guilds instead - lots of them. You (the PC) are not born to them, but you can join any that you meet the qualifications for. And, more guilds can be set up: Merchant's Guild, Mason's Guild, Farmer's Guild, Mining Guild, and so on. Many of these have already been established by various mods. Search the categories on Nexus if you want to add one to your game.

That's right... the political and societal system in Cyrodiil is entirely different than in Morrowind, which was able to maintain much of its cultural identity despite it also being ruled by the empire. Rivaling great houses or something similar would not make much sense, lore-wise. So, yes, additional guilds probably is the way to go.

You could say that Guild Advancement mod, plus Fighters Guild Quests and Mage's Guild Quests from David Brasher, plus Bane's Guild United for a guild looks overhaul, go a long way in enhancing the guilds in Oblivion. Not a lore extension or story extension, but makes climbing the guild's ladder more difficult for a non-specialist character.

Also, Integration-The Stranded Light quest mod includes a full blown guild of its own, if you manage to follow the questline into completion... never got there myself, but I've seen/read others that have.

I realize that this may not be what you're looking for, but I'm just posting them here in case they interest you...

Integration ->

* Choose one of these (read the instructions!):

http://theelderscrolls.info/?go=dlfile&fileid=441 <-- NO requirements version (doesn't depend on having installed Less Annoying Magic Experience or Race Balancing Project)

http://theelderscrolls.info/?go=dlfile&fileid=349 <-- It has dependences, must install LAME and RBP first.

Hope you find something you like!

Best regards,

Leandro

If you like the complexity of Morrowind, I'd guess you'd like Integration. It's a bit strange aesthetically, but if you can get pass that part of the mod, it's an awesome mod full of things to do and interesting characters to know and talk with :) Disclaimer: I'm huge fan of the mod, so I might be biased on my opinion of it :P

Also, bit of word of warning w.r.t. the guild's quests... keep in mind that some of David Brasher's mods are a bit on the hardcoe side difficulty-wise... don't know specifically about those Mage's and Fighter's guild quests, but I guess you might find some tasks that aren't completable unless you're high level enough.

I've must say that I tried the first quest of the Mage's guild and they seemed simply enough at first, but they led me to dungeons filled with Oscuro's Overhaul enemies, that weren't really doable for me at the level I was at the time...

And YES, read the readmes carefully! It will save you lots of headaches for later! :)

Also, mind compatibility patches for your already installed mods... Integration may need several compatibility patches, depending on your current load order.... check your installed mods' pages!

Best of lucks!
