Hold Choosing

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 2:01 pm

Hey guys just wanted to ask you, which hold to like the best?

Personally for me I like Morthal, because that is where I like to explore most of the dungeons around in the area. Also it is where I became thane and where I live. Plus, when doing the main story missions, I found The Jarl of Morthal at the Thalmor's party. So when I talked to her, she welcomed me and I told I needed a distraction, so she helped me out.

I love The Rift, it's beautiful to look at and has some very interesting stories. My favorite dungeon is there, Forelhost. I could only wish they had put a Hearthfire house there, though now I use mods and a lot of my characters live there.

Both The Rift and Falkreath are beautiful places I enjoy spending time in. Morthal is probably my least favorite as I am not a "swamp fan" :)

I think The Pale is my favorite. It has a good mix of landscapes from freezing winter to the tundra near Whiterun.

Oh well. Each hold appeals to a different mood......well not all of them.

I love the frozen isolation of the Pale South of Dawnstar......like Christmas. And at night it's Snow Queen country!

If I'm feeling melancholy ( which does not mean depressed btw). Then I love Falkreath in the rain!

The autumnal colours of the Rift are magical as the sun sets and it all comes alive in an Ambre glow

Enjoy exploring The Reach. Like the waterfalls, and climbing up high spots to fire off long distance bow shots.

Huh... I actually like the area's of swamp that don't have snow and ice, It reminds me of home. Which is probably why I picked the Rift as my favorite, Florida doesn't get to much color change... snow is...best seen from a window seat with a warm fire going...

...Dashing 'cross the beach

the hot sand burning out feet

over the dunes we go

screeching all the way...

...The waves are bought to break

making the surfing great

Oh what fun it is to sit

on the beach on Christmas day...

I feel like Morthal has this kind of mysterious tone to it. Like when you walk around the town, you actually feel like something is out of place.

This is a good point. I agree that Morthal does have that "something's not right, here" vibe to it. It's still a swamp, though

I love the Reach, although I'm not a big fan of Markarth. The landscape is beautiful.

Yeah, that's why I love it too. It lacks some things as a gameplay hub, but it sure compensates with its mysterious character and sense of danger.

I always end up in Falkreath because I love the Pine Forest. But, if I could build a steading anywhere, I'd go either a simple cottage in the Rift (close enough to Riften to trade) or a stronghold in the mountains of the Reach.

Like others, I find it hard to choose, as I like all of them. I figure that's a good thing!

Adore: Riften, Falkreath, Whiterun, Solitude.

Like: Markarth.

Not my fave but don't mind: Dawnstar, Winterhold, Windhelm.

Yeah, I know the hold names aren't all the same as the city names but I don't care. I find it easier to just think of them by their main city.

I always thought the Jarl of Morthal had the best looking robes, because they just stand out from all the rest.

This question has come up regularly since the game came out and my answer is always the same: The Rift. The Rift is, in fact, my all-time favorite region in any Bethesda game, ever. I love the woods, the autumnal colors (fall is my favorite season), the lakes, waterfalls, the town of Riften with its double-decker layout and its fisheries...everything. Two of my characters have spent their entire game lives there, without ever leaving. I love the place so much I use a mod that plants Rift trees in and around Whiterun, making it look like an annex of The Rift. ;)

I've always been partial to Whiterun. I recently got Heljarchen Hall, just outside Whiterun and I was surprised how much it improved gameplay. It's not as beautiful as Lakeview Manor (and not nearly as frequently raided by monsters) and the surrounding lands aren't as rich as the swamps of Morthal, but it has a lot going for it:

  • Central location with easy carriage access to and from Whiterun
  • Close to one of the elevators down to Blackreach
  • Within easy reach of Nightgate Inn and all the locations up north
  • Quick access to all the merchants in Whiterun
  • Also comes with a mill for grinding flour which didn't matter to my build but may for others

So, unless I'm playing an alchemist, or I really need to get a Hearthfire house fast (Lakeview is pretty easy to get right away), this is now my new favorite house in the vanilla game.

Edit: Also very close to the Lord Stone and Mehrunes Dagon's shrine...

I'm quite fond of the Rift as well but after purchasing Breezehome as a "starter" I always build my home in Falkreath Hold, there is just something about the Lakeview property that suits me to a "T"! B)

I’ve found something to love in all of the Holds, but Whiterun Hold is my favorite. It’s the plains that get me. Big sky, giants, and mammoths. Mammoths! I know that the volcanic tundra also has them, but they’re even more fun to watch on the plains. I never get tired of mammoths.

Was reading through this thread and thinking about houses....vanilla (with all dlcs) I usually start with breezehome and then "upgrade" to solitude/riften/markarth, depending on character.

Occurred to me though that if I could turn a location into a house (inspired in part by caranthir tower mod) then it would be Reachwind Eyrie. So I looked it up and what do you know, there's a http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12760/? for that :)

My favorite is Whiterun Hold, with the Reach and the Rift tying for second.

I always liked Morthal for the fact that it is really close to Solitude. Solitude is my next favorite place to go.

... and all of the Reach!

I'd build my home just off the plateau of the Twin Towers.
