At start of Skyrim V, screen tumbles constantly - unplayable

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 3:12 am

I have a number of games under Steam. Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Dishonored, etc. They all run perfectly. When I start Skyrim V, however, the screen tumbles constantly making the game absolutely unplayable. The sound is normal, the announcement "Use the mouse to look around." shows normally and when I move the mouse it disappears, as it should. I have an i7 5930K, Asus Rampage 5 Extreme, 16 Gig DDR4 ram and 2 GTX 980Ti 6GB video cards running in SLI so I have the juice to run this, without question. Is there a problem with SLI? I have seen this problem bandied about but I have never seen a definitive cause or a definitive fix.

The game does not natively support SLI, so try disabling it for this game.

I have had this problem myself a number of times (I don't have a big enough rig for SLI to be a possibility)
I always understood it to be a problem with the physics , though SLI could be exacerbating the issue. The way I sorted it (not ideal, but seems to work) is to download an alternate start mod (Live Another Life), initiating with this mod and then choosing the vanilla start (crossing the border illegally) has negated all issues of this sort on my end.

Hope this helps :)
