Game won't start after installing a mod

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:55 am

Hi all

Pretty new to this modding thing, anyway I set my PC up to be able to install mods (altering the ini files etc) by following the instructions from someone called Gopher on youtube who seems to know what he is talking about. The .esp file is showing up in appdata>plugins.txt but when I start the game I get as far as the "press any key" screen with the power armour in the garage and the music playing then after about three seconds the game just stops and I'm back in desktop, no icon in the bottom bar to say it is running or anything it just stops.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Using mod manager? Using fse? Or using the beta patch? Beta patch will untick your mods, unless launched a certain way (like with f4se)

This was just a manual installation.

manual install tends to be a very bad idea. Easy to screw up, and hard to undo. Hell, even modding since morrowind days I avoid installing manually like the plague. But since, the esp was listed it probably was installed right.

The crash on startup, at least for skyrim, tended to mean you are missing a file. Is whatever you downloaded requiring another mod to work? For example there is a dialogue replacer on nexus, that at one point required files from a Russian made mod. (later changed to not need those files, but thats besides the point)

The mod stops the radiant quests from Preston, it didn't say anything about needing another mod to work.

Edit: I have since removed the mod and my game is back to being playable again. I would still like to get it working again though as I hate those radiant quests.

I hear you, I just tend to ignore them. And assign Preston to what I refer to as my penal colony.

I reinstalled everything and the game seems to be working ok now, only thing I did differently was extract straight to the data folder instead of to desktop and dragging from there
