End of Summer Writers Awards

Post » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:13 am

Well, it is time for alot of us to return back to the Mind-Restricting prisons of school, and with that I believe will cause a bit of trouble for us to use our imagination at the max.

What say we give out a few awards for some of the best rp's and fanfictions that have happened over the last two-four months? What do you all think of the idea? Im just bringing it up...

Bah, I say there haven't been any RPs or Fan Fics that were started over the summer that are really enough to have a contest over. Not saying some weren't good, but the calibur required for an actual contest is higher. I might be overlooking some, but none really come to mind.

(Must resist urge to advertise Feyfolken forum)

I had a similar idea though, I would love to see where my story goes compared to others.

:o I liked mine...

But theres too many fanfics on the entire forum to judge them all, but also not enough that are new to this summer for it to really be much of a contest.. i must have counted about 5 recent fanfic if that. Not really enough tbh.

Plus the problem is, the same old fanfics will keep winning, even the ones that are updated once every few months or ones that are long dead.

Award ceremonies are dumb.

And besides, there's already a contest going on. Aaaaaand, awards ceremonies tend to be popularity contests anyhow.

Another anoyance is, i've seen some truely horrible fanfics get a whole bunch of frequent readers then i've seen some very well written fanfics get very little attention. For a writing forum, people here really do like to avoid actuall reading any of the content on display. The longer the chapters an what not the less feedback and readers. The shoter, the more. Its a shame really because lasttime we had a contest quite a few really well done fanfics where just plain over looked.

Spam much? Take it to the CD forum if you have to make those kinds of comments :stare:

But yes, length, bias, and poor systems are all problems involved with making a contest. Believe me, Feyfolken started out as an idea like this, and it turned into a whole forum with all kinds of rules and blah. It won't be as simple as you think, trust me.

I like the current contest just fine, thank you. Join it if you want one :P

Shh! You don't get to be one if they know you expect it :P No, I just prefer my writers a bit more, ah, refined. Besides, I hardly think WOOOOOT is a constructive comment ;)

So as not to be a hypocrite, I will conclude the debate with this: It is not the best idea, being there are several problems involved, and the only way I know of to deal with them is the way Feyfolken went. And since we have that now, a new contest is not required. If anyone has dissenting opinions, feel free.

I loled at that for some reason

But yeah I think this should be re-opened at the end of the year ;)

Actually if RavenVW doesn't host and End of Year Awards thread again I might think of doing it. It is quite fun to read why people vote for each other.
