Is there a way to add your own prefabs?

Post » Fri Dec 04, 2015 3:10 pm

When you're building communities I accidentally found you could pick up and move a whole structure of prefabs and anything attached to them with a long press of the select button, which got me thinking is there a way to save a selection of assembled objects as a group? Like set your own prefabs? That would make the community building part a little less tedious / less time consuming / more fun. Hope to see that in an update or a mod if it's not possible already.

You can kind of select and move groups of items. Go to 7:00.

Yeah I was saying i figured that out on accident, like i built a huge building with stairs and beds and power yada yada, and i held the button to select something to move and it picked everything up, that's cool but i"m asking if you could save all that as a new prefab once you select it all so you don't have to do it all over again at every spot.

You cannot save a prefab... yet. I sure hope something like that is added to the base game. If it isn't, a mod will allow us to do exactly that.

Related question: Can you highlight an object while in build mode and duplicate it? Let's say I go to some building that's in progress. Rather than try to find the wall that matches the wall I've already started to use, can i just point to one and ask it to give me another?

The reason I ask is because maybe this could work along with the group select feature.

? Yeah? I'm sure you have a whole list of complaints, it's not hard to come up with criticism but making it constructive is a challenge sometimes. Let's do it one thread at a time.

That would be pretty cool too, I'm pretty sure when we select something it's using an array of object id's but I don't know what's possible to change. It's going to be interesting to see what can be done with the creation kit with base building.
