Is there a way to see where your companions are? Sometimes when I'm trying to find a specific companion I forget what settlement I sent them to. Also, do i have to romance partners to get the perk or will just max companionship level do? I'm excluding the lovers embrace perk of course.

You get the companion perk at max affinity, no romance required. Only thing that provides is the improved resting perk.

As far as i know, there's nothing that shows companions positions.
