I need an electrician.

Well, maybe not but I am curious how you guys are wiring your homes to minimize the amount of wires running all over the place. My OCD kicks in as soon as I start seeing wires running up and down and alongside walls. I have a six-story armory and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get lights inside of it without it having wires running every which way. I've looked on YouTube but the only tutorials I've seen are simply how to run wires from generators to switches, etc. I know how it all works, but I just haven't figured out how to hide wires very well.

I wish there wasn't a radius for each conduit. I wish if one conduit touched the structure, then the entire structure could be lit.

Are the wires inside? Is that what's bothering you?

I put all the little conduits outside of the building, and connect them as neatly as I can to the back.

Yeah it's not too hard to get it decent looking on the outside. They extend their power rather far inwards.

Trick to stick them along the wall. Think of it as your own house. Where do we hide our wires?

Power conduits, large generators, and those 'power line looking things' are your best friend. Depending on how many lights you need; place two large generators (wherever you want), attach wires to them both, attach a single wire to a 'power line thing' (sorry forgot the name), and then just attach lines from THAT power line to the power conduits. No wires inside and it minimizes the use of smaller generators and excess wiring.

Hope that makes sense...

Does the size of the generator change the radius for light bulbs? For a six-story building that's quite large where all do I need to have conduits? Along the middle and around the entire structure? I'd really wish there was some way to put one conduit on top and have it power the whole building. If I have conduits on the top floor (roof of a six-story structure) how far down can I power interior lights?

I love the settlement building but there's really no tutorial whatsoever from Bethesda. Kind of frustrating.

I wish I could help you with that question, but am unsure how lights affect larger buildings. Sorry man.

I think the Castle's pre-placed lights were done well and I've been doing my lights that way since I found that place.

I usually centralise the generators and then run power poles either through the centre of the settlement or around the edges depending on how big they are. I then use the jet pack for power armour to place the terminators on the roofs or if the building is large around the eaves or walls of multi storey buildings. I have no wires internally.

You could hide the wiring by building a utility tower attached to your main building, with stacked pylons/generators, then connecting each floor with a series of conduits.

One thing you can do is build a double wall. Run your conduits on one wall, then hide them with another free standing one. (One that doesn't lock to the floor.). But that takes a lot of resources.

I ran mine underneath and up the back on this one and they are barely visible ...

I prefer building with those riser floors with the legs. Can't remember what they are called. You can adjust the height and I've made some pretty cool building with them.

I have another one that I ran the wires on top.

There's no limit to the lights you can have on one generator. You can have up to 999 lights and only use '1' power. If you take notices in my screenshot, you can even put lights on the large power pole. That makes for some nice lighting effects as well.

I started a high rise apartment building in Jamaica Plain. Not sure how I'm going to approach that one yet.

You can also extend them. In other words, they all don't have to come off the generator. You can put a conduit, then another, and another, and chain them.

Is it not possible to put the generators on the roof and run power down directly through the building?

All you need is a mod that changes the length the wires can be to unlimited. this gives you the opportunity to make electrician poles around your settlement. just look on the nexus for that mod.

I like that you can't run an "infinitely" long wire, but have to use the pylons, etc., makes sense, and makes you consider space and resources a bit more than you might.

Use small floor tiles and leave one out of the same corner on every level and run wires up there, you could even use the small wall pieces to cover over it once finished. From there connect to a terminal up top with a switch as well if you want.

You can just put generators and power pylons on the roof. You really don't need all the wiring if you're just going for lighting, and powering a jukebox.
