The Factions in Fallout 4

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Fallout 4, but is it just me or do the Factions seem so much more disappointing compared to New Vegas? I loved the factions in New Vegas, they were engaging, interesting, and were similar to real life counterparts. The whole vying for control of New Vegas was so interesting to me. In Fallout 4 I don't really have an attachment to any of the Factions, the Minutemen are just those annoying whiny people in cowboy hats and rag tags that are the boring good guys, the Institute so far has evolved into nothing more than the boogieman of the Commonwealth, and the Brotherhood managed to play even less of a pivotal point here than it did in 3 or New Vegas, no NCR, no Legion, No Great Khans, no Boomers, no Enclave, nothing.

New Vegas I think had better overall factions, but I think thats because all of the 3 major players had some designs that I really liked the look of. The Legion being all Roman which I will always love, New Vegas and its robot army, and the NCR Ranger with the black armour you see on the box is hard not to love.

In Fallout 4 I absolutely love everything about the Brotherhoods design, although its my character that agrees with their ideology and not so much myself. I find the minutemen to not be very compelling, alongside the Railroad, although the high technology and evil scientist stuff of The Institute is really great.

I am also bit disappointed to the FO4 factions. I am european and don't like at all for example that the minutemen and kinda like comboys. That actually shoosh me from them. BoS are just psychos. Railroad fun but not at all believable. What comes to the last they seems just too vague. Though in all complains kinda like that the player is put inmiddle of the conflict of the interests but would like that there was more clear and better ways to affect the factions. At the time being feel that as all the factions are weird rather would play the game through without any faction but already did the mistake joining all of them. -_-

I agree the factions feel somewhat lacking in content & depth

I think the factions had potential to be awesome, I especially liked the concept of the Railroad. In my opinion they weren't executed very well and all of them ended up being pretty shallow and narrow minded and not very interesting.

It seems the Brotherhood and the Institute are the most fleshed out factions if anything. The brotherhood have the Prydwyn, all that power armor, vertibirds and a battle-hardened valor to them. The Institute have the.. the institute, all those synths, coursers, tech and the whole "for the future" aspect.

The Minutemen were basically wiped out before you came along. If anything, the Minutemen are representation of your own creativity through settlements. How you arm your settlers, how you build your settlements.. that is all a representation of the Minutemen.

I didn't really pursue many of their quests, but it seemed like the railroad was the most half-baked of them all. They simply exist because of the synths.. and aside from Tinker Tom, most of them seem kind of generic.

The look and feel of these factions seems on par with that of New Vegas to me.

At least I feel like all of the factions are worth picking. In New Vegas, The Legion and Mr. House were such a dark shade of gray that they were practically black. Yes Man and NCR were really the only two viable options.

TBH, while I like New Vegas's factions from a lore perspective, they're all pretty generic thematically. The cruel but orderly dictatorship, the inefficient democracy, etc. Isolationist utopian scientists fighting against expansionist neo-feudalist technophiles is more interesting to me.

Not to trash NV, I adore that game (it kinda svcks I have to put that disclaimer in every time I criticize the game to avoid being ripped apart). As someone who respects democracy and human rights, going with the NCR was a no brainer in NV. But FO4's factions were something new for me that made me seriously think about who to side with.

I'm more of a fascist/ borderline neo nazi myself, so I love authoritarian dictatorships, the Legion was a no brainer for me but I played through every faction to get a taste because I felt they were so worth as to deserve playthroughs of their own. Nothing like that in Fallout 4 satisfies my thirst. The Minutemen are just too plain and good, they're boring. The Institute may be my best bet as I love the prospect of allying with a Science focused faction that everyone is terrified of.
