Piper = Moira 2.0?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 4:53 pm

The main Piper threads were closed for post count or whatever, so I wanted to start a new one.

I'm sure the first thought of many was that Piper was looking like a Moira 2.0.

Piper could have been a very interesting character with a ton of unique newspaper quests, but instead we get nothing from her except a dialogue wheel "interview" cutscene and the option of having her be a companion.

Give me less companions - I never use them - less settlement-related stuff such as building and defending, less radiant quests, and let's get back to unique and interesting NPCs with unique and interesting quests.

It seems like Bethesda were too busy trying to make gameplay mechanics (settlements) that would extend playtime artificially, that they forgot to make all the great stories and quests we've come to love and expect, and let the playtime take care of itself.

I'll take Moira over Piper any day.

You're not familiar with Bethesda's work, are you?...

Also, if Piper = Moira, Diamond City = Megaton?

And Valentine = Moriarty?

Not exactly, of course, but structurally, in terms of the elements, it's all just a little too much like Fallout 3, but less interesting.

I'm interested in similar comparisons anyone can think of.

Uh? But Moira did nothing but ask you to perform very tedious and dangerous tasks within the wasteland, it was definitely a decent way to get you started, but the vast majority of players skipped it for a reason. I find Piper pretty interesting she voices her concern on many things and has a general naiveness about her which I'd love to take advantage and murder her after satisfying my sixual pleasures (unfortunately the best I get is a dialogue wheel where I repeatedly mash B to give a slightly meaner answer and get back the same response)

Piper is Lois Lane.

I mean, not even inspired by her.

She's the exact same character in the Post-Apocalypse world.

She even has a kid sister and a soldier father.

LOL, I admit I was a bit late to the bandwagon, but I've been playing Bethesda games since Oblivion. Liking things is a subjective matter of personal opinion. I get what you're saying :)

But my main point is that we've had better in previous Bethesda games - comparing not to other games by other companies, but comparing to previous Bethesda games.

I boned Piper then dumped her in the castle, I did the same with Cait and Curie.

See a trend here?

I like Piper, she's my favorite of the companions so far. I haven't met them all, though.

My one disappointment with her was that I expected her to keep updating her newspaper with new editions as the game progressed, but she seems to have given it all up for my character. She even abandoned her little sister, who's still stuck trying to sell copies of her last edition.

That's a horrible thing to say about someone!

I wanted to blast Moira in the face everytime I handed in one of her quests - she's the sole reason I blew up Megaton!

Piper's just mildly irritating...

That really bothered me - which then caused me to take Piper back to where she belonged. This has to be one of the worst quest lines in the game, with no sense of logic whatsoever. What about Diamond City? What about cleaning up the bad politics? And what about her sister???

Honestly, this made me really dislike her.

Whoa now. Piper is Piper. Moira was too unique (in the best way IMO) to tried to be copied or relative to another Character. But I guess in the way things play out in FO4 I can see how, in a more general character placement sense, how she could be Moira

I did max it, for no particular reason... then sent her back in Diamond City.

At the end she wasn't as irritating as she looked in the beggining, but yet not my type.

Cait and Nick were a lot more engaging, although their stories were also way too ... brief.
