Hunting rifle, caliber 50 really ? WTF ?

I'm kinda of two minds regarding this issue.

First, you might not kow it, nut the first Barrett .50 cal was built in a home shop, and was used for deer hunting in Virginia at ranges of up to a mile. The two guys who made it, built it to be used as a bench rifle, and placed on a hilltop with a wide view of the surrounding area. I don't have a clue why anybody at all would think it to be less accurate than a .308 caliber hunting rifle.

It did have a custom built receiver and barrel (also create in that home shop), because of course a lesser size would absolutely not work.

As to effect, a .50 cal should kill a Mack truck at a mile by penetrating the engine block... Understanding that principle tells us that body armor would be next to useless, and even power armor not much better. The effects on a human body are just not easily imaginable.

In the end, Bozar effects with a more normal appearing hunting rifle build would not be out of the question in RL, so I think that mods will be needed to get us to a good result for the .50, eh?

That's what I'm hoping for. Some players are actually arguing against a Gunrunner's type pack...something about resources, blah, blah, blah. Yet, Obsidian (and I'm no overly devoted fan of either Obsidian or Bethesda--both have their good/bad points), managed to put out multiple weapon packs, (to include the fantastic GRA pack which gave us more than just more triple moddable weapons), and also four of the best story-based, new location DLCs I've ever played. Not buying the whole resourcing thing...at all. Especially for the game that is easily their best launch (and probably will be their best seller) to date.

A lot of players seem to really want a facelift and more capability added to the vanilla weapons. Hopefully Bethesda has their listening ears on.

We need a quality weapon pack for this game pretty bad (what happened to that M14 we saw in the Wanderer trailer?) and more than a few tweaks in an update for small arms.

The Ferret is cool though!!! :goodjob:

curious. in a fully mod-capable game, if people complain about this and that, then why not make a mod to fit their own satisfaction?

Yeah, I did. I'd rather see a real DLC, with content (including some new guns), instead of just a boring "moar guns" pack. Would be a waste of a spot in the season pass.

Plus bloody mess effect even if the player does not have the perk.

After fulling modding a hunting rifle, I managed to make it look like a US Barrett .50 rifle. I put it completely through the ringer and it looks legit now. This wasn't even on purpose, I was simply modding it so it was better.

It's the wasteland, look at it like this, you're not putting a .50 caliber feed on a .308 hunting rifle, you're using said hunting rifle's parts to make a .50 caliber rifle.

Well true. The Saiga I have in my closet at home is basically an AK-47 modded to take 410 shotgun shells (loaded with slugs). So if a rifle can be modded into a shotgun I guess the .50 mod isn't too much of a stretch, but you would have to replace more than just the receiver ... like the barrel for one thing.

Forget about anything to do with reality in any way whatsoever where the .50 sniper rifle is concerned.

If paying attention to reality is going to be considered, .50 cal should be insta-kill. Seriously. I won't post a link because it involves real people, but you can go to google/youtube and look up sniper shots against terrorists in the mid east. Shots with .50 cal rifle are insta-kill. There is no other way to describe it.

Obviously, .50 implemented closer to reality would be game breaking, as it would totally destroy any soft target with even a limb strike.

Maybe it could be implemented.... I could imagine something like the way Power Armor is currently done. You can take a .50 rifle with you, but it will be the only weapon you can have on your person. Rate of fire will be verrrry slow, and the ammo will have weight, and will be very heavy. It would be a situational weapon only, not useful under most circumstances, but indispensable in the right circumstance.

Otherwise it is just another weapon with a little more damage that whittles your foes away a little faster than the next one down the list.

I pretend that my fully upgraded and silenced .50 cal rifle call Reacher is a .338 lapua, anyway, not a .50 cal. :D It's all make believe anyway!

Well at least .50 have the best sound, for that little damage lol,

and it did save me in Vault 95 where I need to fight 2 assaultrons, 1 legendaries gunner/ raider, and 1 Sentry bot at the same time.

I shoots them from afar and hide, with +25 bleeding damage, in FO4 even robots bleed. Nearly used up all .50 ammo I have that time.

I agree with this. I want more guns and ammo types but give me more story base with along with guns instead of a $5 or $10 gun pack.
