People without live?

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 2:19 am

Hi everyone I'm creating this topic to ask how patches for the game will be handled for us on the 360 (and possibly ps3) who do not have access to the internet on our consoles. I looked though a couple pages of topics but couldn't find one specifly on this. Now I don't feel it should be nessicary for me to to have to connect to live for me to live to install a patch without first being told on the product that it would require such a thing. I don't blame the devs for this happening but i feel its only fair we all get the product we paid for and I'm sure there hard at work fixing this. Does anyone know how they plan to help us all who do not have the option of connecting to live to fix this?
Lastly i just wanna thank the devs for working hard to fix this and making a great game for all of us :)
Hopefully this will be taken care of soon.

That might be true and im not gonna be up in arms about it, but it i would seriouly have to consider buying anything from Beth or Obsidian again.
I mean it would kinda be spitting in the face of consumer rights not to do anything about it. If i remember correctly you used to be able to download xbox patches on your computer and put them over on a flash drive of dish.

Now in the chance that they just dont care enough to help with this, to get the patch alls i have to do is sign up to xbox ( with out paying?) and plug my xbox in to the router like we used to do with computeres right?

It might not be taht big of a deal but i would at least like to see it handled for people without the option

Before I bought New Vegas I had never even attempted to access Xbox Live. All I had to do was find the Ethernet Cable that came with the Xbox, stick one end into the back of my modem and the other end into my Xbox and then just press "Join Xbox Live!" in the Xbox menus, all you need is a Email Address, and you will automatically get a Gold Membership free for one month.

I'm on your side here but I have to ask, how would this be possible?

Thank you very much for that information if its as simple as that then I'll just do that.
I'll just drag my xbox over to the computer room tmorrow or something and give it a try.
Too bad for the people that might not have this option, but I won't blame the devs for it.
Guess I better save up for TESV then haha.

no need to hurry, the patch problably won't be out for a while, they said they will have an announcement regarding the patch first, then we will probably need to wait a 2 weeks for microsoft certification of the patch

You mean from any developer ever again. The internet is the present and the future my friend. You'll just have to get used to always being wired in to it.

Obviously you are on the net so it is not a problem for you. Also I believe in this day in age everybody has a friend who has the internet. You can find a way to borrow some internet for a few seconds that it takes to download the patch from Live. This is a ridiculous post for anybody on these forums to be posting about. Obviously you have internet access, so why the gripe?

Also considering you already bought the game... the developers really owe you nothing. They never made a contract with you to patch your game. They won't go out of their way to assist the super small minority of xbox owners who have no access to the internet.

You don't even need a gold membership for it. Silver lets you buy anything on the marketplace (DLCs) as well as download updates. My 360 is virtually never hooked up to the internet but when there's an update (or when I hope there's one) I just take an ethernet cord out of a box in my room and hook it up, download the update, then unplug it again.

Honestly, you can get a good 20-30+ foot ethernet cord at any one of many, many stores for pretty cheap. If you don't have internet at your house or apartment, then I don't really have any suggestions for you as that puts you in the minority of people old enough to play this game. If you have wireless internet even you should have a modem or hub of some kind that has at least one ethernet port; if not get a new modem because it should have at least one.

I can understand why you might not have your Xbox hooked up to the internet at all times (I don't because I don't have XBL gold, I don't play multiplayer or have interest in doing so, and the cord would be going right through the middle of my apartment and tripping people) but there's really no excuse that comes to mind for not being able to hook it up from time to time when you need to patch. Bethesda can't really help you if you somehow lack the ability to buy an ethernet cord.

It should be pretty much understood, however, that the game actually works when you buy it. If enough people have the same issues it is obviously the fault of the developers and not on the user end.

I fear this as well, but unfortunately if this is the case I'll be returning my un-played game for a refund. I'm patient, and have been for the past three days now without even booting up my disc. But two weeks patient - No thanks. I just hope Microsoft realise how much of a problem this actually is, and go through the certification process faster than usual. Say within this week. Ensuring it is still a good patch to release to everyone.

(Looks at wireless USB modem that's being used to connect to forum)

I don't see Ethernet port on this thing.
