Why must your followers insist on repeating the same 'Idolised' dialogue over and over and over?

I'd guess it's to give you another shot if you miss the 'Romance' speech check (for which I'm sure players are just quicksaving-quickloading anyway) but you'd think after telling someone we're best friends for the tenth time without even attempting the 'Romance' option would be enough of a hint.

Seriously, how many more times do I have to hear "sorry about laying out all that crap about my feelings" or "hope I didn't bore you with that speech I am about to now repeat"..? Especially now that some of these people are living in my settlement - every now and again they wander by and "listen, I just wanted to thank you again, again, for the speech I am now giving again".

Like, a console command or something? Is there a real limit or is this Groundhog Day for therapists?

Really?

---spoilers---

I had to open the console and physically disable Marcy, I think her name was, since she complained about me letting Grandma die, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... I thought she was eventually going to let it go, but noooo, 150 hours of constant nagging and I had enough!

Oh yeah, Marcy is annoying, but I mean companions.

After you reach idolised status, there is another, later conversation. They reference said 'idolised' conversation and events (thus lines like "laying out all that crap about my feelings) - and then, in case you have the memory of a dead mole rat, review the minutes of that conversation.

The problem is that they KEEP DOING THIS. Not all the time, not every time - there is a definite 'cooldown'. They'll have the conversation, but then a week later, it's happening again.

Just think of your companions as brain dead simpletons with the memory of a goldfish. :liplick:

I had to ditch Piper for that very reason. She had a tendency to launch into that romance trigger conversation in the MIDDLE OF A RUNNING FIREFIGHT! Like that was absolutely the best and most appropriate time to bring the topic up!

Pass the speech check and then tell them you're not interested. Doesn't that work?

I'm in Dante's 7th Circle Of Hell when I go over carry limit in Sanctuary with 6 companions staying there. It just becomes a mash of demonic incantations.

There was actually a mod for Skyrim that made your companions comment more. Follower commentary overhaul, and Bethesda put this in Fallout 4, and now people want it gone. Can't please everyone it seems. But i guess it could be abit more subtle, and not so often repeated.

I think it's a bug that if you complete one companion's romance, the others start repeating their last romance dialogue.

Emphasis mine.

Dialog is good. Talking is good. Saying the exact same thing every 5 seconds - without exaggeration - is a poor implementation.

Yeah that is why the FCO mod came with a slider so you could adjust how much they talk. Unfornately no game come with sliders for stuff like that.

Yeah people just get bored over everything.

I personally want them say more, but with much more lines than repeating the same line over and over.

I'm unclear why games don't add more options in this respect. This is divergent, but I remember the first Dragon Age coming with options to configure NPC behavior. MY WORD I loved that and I used the heck out of it. Now ... nope ... doesn't exist. I'm all for as many options and configuration choices as possible.

It's to give you a chance to romance the characters, if you missed the charisma check the first 14 times. Alternatively, all your companions really want to bone you, but are super passive aggressive and keep repeating praise in the hope you catch on.

Options are always nice. Unfornately minor things like this is what Bethesda makes the mod community implement, and they are not wrong on that count either. Most games out there have some kind of minor annoyance in them, not often you get to fix it though.

Yup, the Dragon Age games are a nice example of user feedback. I hated Dragon Age for the longest time until I finally spent the time to work out the NPC interface and how to configure everything. Two lost all of that along with so many other dreadful changes, but had such wonderful characters like Isabella and Merril that most people played it anyway. It was such a reduced game in comparison. Inquisition is rather like the Bioware Skyrim, putting back a lot of what they took out but it's still not as flexible as the original Dragon Age.

Beth had the same cycle from Morrowind to Oblivion and then Skyrim. So Far I really like the implementation in FO 4, but do wish they had 3 sets of voices for the PC like Saints Row 3 did.
