Preston Garvey: Just Venting

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:06 pm

Preston has not annoyed me yet in my game which is probably up to 110 hours by now.

I haven't really paid much attention to him in the 1st place. I rescued him and the others, set them up at Sanctuary and basically ignored for the most part. I've been using Dogmeat and then Codsworth to do some exploring and also resource grinding since I wanted to have a good stockpile of crap before actually trying to build up a settlement beyond just placing water pumps and turrets.

I don't think I bothered with the Tenpines minuteman quest until about 40 hours into the game and I did not start Outpost Zimonja until about 70 hour into the game. Outpost Zimonja is still an active quest since I have not bothered building the settler recruitment signal tower yet.

I have only been using Preston as a companion at about 85 hours into the game. I can't recall if he gave me any radiant quest to dispatch raiders or whatever. It's possible, but like I stated I have been ignoring through out most of the game. I only just got to Diamond City last night before turning off the game so I might switch him out for Piper over the weekend...

I have no ideal how to set up a settler route. (Haven't got the perk.) That said, I was referring to the initial contact when Jerk nuts sends you out on the minuteman quest. For example, when you go to the drive-in there is nothing in the workstation to even make an outhouse with. Lots of steel, but little else. Thankfully I am on a PC so I can cheat: But, that even gets boring and time consuming.

I just spent the better part of the day romancing Cait and I am totally unsatisfied. I know if I start doing all of the Minuteman quests it will piss her off. I do like how she wakes up with you in bed: However, Piper doesn't. In my first play through I would wake up and Piper would make a comment, from a hundred yards away. I would be in my house and she would be outside nearby. Sounds like my ex-wife! "Did you sleep well, honey? I know I did." You can imagine my response. There seems to be a plethora of inconsistencies in the romancing mechanics, as well as the repetitive Minuteman quests. I am just about ready to go back and play Tera Rising of DAI or one of the two. At the very least the dialogue in those two games won't be so damn repetitive.

He's providing you with Intel; unless you'd rather the Sole Survivor sit around all day and wait for people to ask him for help directly because it hurts your ego that a subordinate is trying to give you some information.

Yep. It amazes me that what seems like a local problem turns out to be anything but local. Most of those long distant raiders would have been taken out by something well before they even got to the settlement.

What I don't like is his repetitive dialogue. How he spouts his gibberish and then turns and walks away before you have a chance relay the outcome...the results of the previous quest. Plus, to me his voice and his demeanor are somewhat rude like. Whats more I hate having to chase his ass down every time I come back. That in itself makes me angry. Mamma Murphy is a junkie and the Longs' are incredible whiners. Even Cait gets on my nerves much of the time with her repetitive dialogue. About the only companion I can stand to play with is Piper and her dialogue is sometimes nerve raking. But, hey you play your game and I will try to play mine. Thank you very much.

Part of my issue with the constant repetitive dialogue comes from having been married to a very verbally abusive wife, mother and daughter. She would sit you at the kitchen table and rant and rave about all the things that your ever did wrong or the things that you didn't do right: and, on and on. Never once mentioning anything you ever did right by her. She would do that to everyone in the family. Yea, I know, it svcks to be me. There now you don't have to repeat it to me.

I greatly enjoyed a visit with someone impersonating Preston. Called him out on it and then he said oh [censored] and ran. I laughed as I gunned him down pretending he was the real deal.

This... Including settlement defences, if they still trash the place, no matter the amount of defence you invested in.

Yeah, you can assign a sanctuary settler to go on a route to that drive thru... and as soon as you assign them (I want to say it's Q in the workshop menu while looking at the settler) they will give you access to all your sanctuary junk from the drive-in workshop.

*edit* My Q key is re-mapped so it's probably a different default key but it will tell you at the bottom of the screen in workshlp mode.

Yeah, I walked off the USS Constitution and never came back as soon as I received that quest. I just woke up in a Nuclear Wasteland after being frozen for 200 years and seeing my family kidnapped and murdered. Hey! Let me run some wires for you! Idiots.

First mod I'm installing will be a "No more unkillable NPCs" and then Preston will mysteriously never make it back from a quest in a dark cave somewhere.
