How to see enemies on HUD in [ Hidden ] mode ?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 12:14 pm

So I'm so good at staying hidden that I can take out an entire enemy base without being spotted. The sneak bonus damage is too good to ignore.

But the thing that drives me crazy is that I can't see enemies position unless I get at least the [ Caution ] status. So I have either to make noise on purpose, or to change to a weapon without suppressor and shot 1 bullet into the air to enter [Caution] mode so I can see where the damn enemies are...and...that defeats the whole purpose of stealth. After seeing where they are on HUD I have to back off to get back into hidden mode, and after all that I can finally snipe them. This takes time that I just don't wanna waste like this.

Seeing enemies position on HUD is a BIG help, especially for me, playing ambush style, cause I can't see through obstacles, around corners and rocks or through walls. If I just go searching for them without knowing their position I usually just bump into one of them, around a corner or behind an obstacle, and all hell breaks loose as they alert the whole base.

Do you have any idea how to see them in hidden mode ?

Some console command, some ini tweak ?

Yeah I hated this in Skyrim also and am really disappointed they didn't fix it. Just because the enemy can't see me shouldn't mean that I can't see them either. I'll be sneaking past buildings and hear raiders talking up above me somewhere, but I have no idea where they are because they don't show up on my radar unless they see me. Hell sometimes I've had to jump up and down in the middle of the street just so I can figure out where they are.

Very bad game mechanic that definitely needs fixed.

I'm still a bit undecided on this.

On one hand, it's unrealistic to see where they all are on the hud, as if by magic.

On the other hand, I'm used to them being on the hud from the previous Fallout games, so I kind of miss it.

On balance, I think it's a reasonable change, and it does add to the immersion and tension of a sneaky clear-out.

But there is a solution, sort of. Berry Mentats.

Well you could argue that the Pipboy has some kind of radar in it that should indicate where they are. Or, allow the players PER to come into play and be able to see them better with high PER.

But I can be in sneak mode ten feet from a raider, in full view, and if he doesn't see me he doesn't show up on the radar. If he does see me not only does he suddenly show up on the radar, but all his friends that are out of sight suddenly show up also. So how can that in any way be explained?

You can try to enter VATS mode and see if that points to an ennemy.

You may have to repeat the process a couple of times, in different directions, to be sure to cover the whole area.

Meh..... playing the game via a radar is an immersion killer. I havent even seen the HUD on the game yet, I pretty much disabled it the moment I began and wont ever be using it.

Personally I like it, the all seeing radar was definitely a contributor to stealth being pretty much op in previous beth games, now you actually have to use your wit if ya wanna stealth, listen for movement, enemy pvssyr, move slow and methodically and sometimes use your reflexes.

And most importantly, learn to man up and accept ya have to get stuck in real firefights from time to time.

I think it is realistic to see at least close enemies on HUD, as long as you got a PipBoy and you put 10 points in Perception.

I kind of started off missing the red ticks. But after 120+ hours I've gotten used to the change. I think the game's better for it.

If you keep an eye on the brackets you can tell when you're getting close to an enemy anyway.

I don't think your PER should have any impact on how the PipBoy works though. The PipBoy's electronics are the same regardless of whether the user has PER 1 or 10.

However, I agree with the flaw you've identified in the detection system. Apparently the PipBoy has a super-advanced detection system: it can only detect enemy locations when IT detects that the enemies have detected you first. :)

Actually I like this feature. It makes it more challenging and I have had some funny experiences (still in sneak I walked around a corner in a base where I thought I killed everyone in got me a Fatman shell to the face at point blank range). They should add a 3rd tier Rank to the perk where you can shoot through cover to allow all enemies in range to appear on the HUD.

I think it's fair, the enemies have the same sort of system. When you shoot or make a noise they have a position where they heard the noise from and go to investigate it. Similarly you can't perceive through walls until they start making noise.

There's also your own perception as a person playing the game, most NPC's are programmed to have a conversation and walk around.

I just use a good scope and my ears ( thank you 7.1 ) to scout an enemy encampment.

The range on the HUD radar seems so low I don't even bother looking at it anymore.

Out of all the topics that I've wanted to contribute to, this is the one I make an account for :P

I'm in the camp that thinks non-hostile enemies not showing up in radar is good, and perfectly ok. Sharp eyes make for exciting moments, when you sneak around going door to door to clear rooms, only to miss an unseen enemy. I like it :D

However, there is one nice alternative that I've been using almost non-stop: modify your Power Armour with a targetting helmet. All NPCs - friend or foe, robot or flesh - are wrapped in a red glow. I'm at the point where I can walk around in Power Armour and enemies won't react till I'm right on them, so sneaking in Power Armour is a non-issue. You get to be as stealthy as you want, while knowing where enemies are.

Nooooo. Perception doesn't equal magic eyes. . It would be a completely unfair advantage if you always knew where your enemies were and they didn't know where you were. The game already has enough advantages in our favor.

If you always knew where all the enemies were, stealth wouldn't be any fun. Hell, the game wouldn't be any fun. When you first walk into a building you have no idea where the enemies are and that's the way it should be. Getting the 'caution' sign might tell you where a few more are at but you lose track of them just like they lose track of you. You have to use your senses and just keep on being stealthy. If one gets the jump on you that's your fault and you then have to deal with being caught.

Thanks for the tip.

That means you hoarded some fusion cores. I also hoarded some, the fact is I tried but don't have the patience to walk in power armor, moving like a snail. I'm used to running, for a reasonably good moving speed, even in sneak mode (with lvl 4 sneak ofc), and that depletes cores like crazy.

Fusion cores aren't any prohibitive. I thought my game was bugging out and duplicating fusion cores, but it turns out they're just everywhere. Up to 114 without even trying now, and that's with sneaking power armour across the Commonwealth 24/7.
