How easy will it be to get from levels 1-20?

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:38 am

I have been looking over the forums for a while and there's one thing bugging me, how easy will you be able to get from 1-20? I'm asking because i want to play more then one combat role and i have read about there being a skill/talent point system to get ability's for a specific class, take me for example, i want to play soldier and engineer, but at level 20 and i switch my soldier to engineer, my engineer ability's will not be the same as a level 20 engineer specific player. Does anyone see where i am coming from?

So what your saying is, you play a character as a soldier and level him up to 20. But you want to play engineer so you create a new character? Is that what you mean?

I think if you create a character and put every skill point into the soldier class you won't be able to take those points out and into a new class like engineer. You will need to create a new character for that or simply balence your ability points between soldier and engineer so when you switch class in-game you will have some skills to work with.

I see your point, but you're seeing it in the wrong way. Let me clarify.

You can play any combat role with any class, you can easily switch during matches, as seen in the videos. To complete both campaigns, you have to play +- 10 hours, but you won't be level 20 by then. You can only get a fixed amount of abilities for each character, so you will have to make more than one character to see everything. However, all basic abilities will be available anyway for any class on any character.
When you reach level 20 and keep playing with that character, you will keep gaining XP points, which you can use to level up new characters without even playing with them.

I suggest you read this: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1154126-unofficial-brink-faq/page__pid__16913615#entry16913615

I understand i can change classes during a match, i also understand that if i want to experience everything i am going to have to make more than one character, but what i was questioning was the ease of getting from 1-20 because i know i am going to have to make more than one character. And my example was just to try and show my reasoning and point of view on the subject.

We don't know exactly how easy or difficult it will be. If you play online you gain twice the XP compared to singleplayer. We also know that it will not be enough to play both campaigns once to reach level 20 and that 1 playthrough of both campaigns will take about 10 hours of gameplay. That's pretty much everything we know currently.

I think it's 10 hours if you play both sides of the campaign, as in 5 hours/side, or am I mistaken?

And I think it will take some matches before you hit Lvl. 20, yeah :P

Wait, where did you pick that "double XP in multiplayer" up? Wasn't that just a random assumption in this forum a few weeks ago? (In that thread concerning people getting to max-level without going into multiplayer.)

And wasn't it roughly Level 15 you would reach after both campaigns? Someone of you Hoove-Priests said that at the end of con-season, iirc.

It was an assumption, yes. But I listened to an interview with Richard Ham in which he said something like this: "We're bribing the player to go online by giving them double the XP they would gain offline. " I think it was part of the Mega interview (search youtube "Brink mega interview")

Ofcourse it's an old interview and things might have changed since then.

He says they're basically bribing you with EXP if you go Online with strangers (or friends!)

Maybe they'll increase the level cap through DLC.

Aww, hell no, not [censored] like that :l

Unless it's free, or they give us credits for downloading it, that is.

Oh, so your like wondering, how much EXP you will need to rank all the way up.

So like lets say you earn 1000 XP every game, and it takes you so much XP to level up. You want to know how much XP it will be to level up?
As far as i know, the only thing i have heard about EXP is what Dysfunkshion and Schwarzeis have stated above.

Yes, in one interview they said that playing both campaigns would take about 10 hours and get you to about level 15. So i think its fair to assume that playing by yourself you can get to level 20 in a day or two of constant playing.

@ OP, one thing that may help your problem is the fact that you can transfer XP to other characters, if you don't want to go back and play at level 1 again, you could just get all of the XP with your first character, then transfer it to your second character until he is level 20 as well.

Also, classes are not locked, so if you wanted to play a Soldier, you would just focus on buying Soldier skills - you can still play any class you want. So if you wanted to play Soldier and Engineer, you could simply focus on purchasing Soldier and engineer skills with the same character, if you wanted.

It shouldn't take more than a week for sure. Probably 3 days max. <---Not play time.

You're being totally arcade about this dude. You need to think about it this way. If you focus on JUST one role you add replay value and longevity to the game. Don't look at it as time wasting look at it as quality time spent with a quality game and a goal set before you. I have only a few of the 16 slots planned on already and I'm excited about pouring time and effort into them.

Heavy Medic specializing in heavy weaponry hanging back with the team and activating huge health buffs in order to make those HUGE pushes through objectives. I hope I get a lot of chances to use that super shotgun the heavies get so I can clear out the remains of fire teams that have killed off my friends and revive them ALL with a LAZ grenada or a LOT of syringes.

Medium Engineer specializing in closed ranged weaponry like shotguns and high rate of fire AR types and dropping turrets to distract as I ambush my foes and defend objectives.

Light Soldier specializing in bullet buffs (and hopefully armour will be passive so I don't die so fast) and getting them to critical members of the team that become isolated or slightly outnumbered as well as flanking when needed

That's just three of my ideas for builds.

I have ideas for a heavy soldier, engineer, operative specific build so that my ability credits are spent effectively. And the same for the other 2 bodytypes. Plus there's still more slots to experiment with.

I'm surprised that no one ever talks about Heavy soldiers with shielding ability and a minigun f.e. If you play this while shielding a heavy medic who also has a very heavy weapon and who keeps healing you... Walking duo of death. Lol :shocking:

Haha, I actually wanted to focus on a heavy build character as well, for my third slot. :D

But I'd rather go with the minigun and soldier class then, to cause a bulletsorm which only pauses during reload.
