You know there's something wrong with the .50 when...

Obviously balancing in general doesn't seem to be bethesda's strong point.

But I don't mind too much, that's where mods come in. Balancing is very fix-able, it's just numbers on stats, no aesthetics or anything like that.

Hey, quick question.

After I installed the mod, everything worked perfectly fine, except the only difference is that fast travel is broken.

Every time I fast travel, fallout 4 shuts down and I have to restart it (And this happens no matter where I fast travel and no matter when).

EDIT

Any time it goes into the loading screen fallout 4 closes. What do you do differently when getting the mod in through NMM (Assuming you use it)?

DOUBLE EDIT

Dammit nevermind... I downloaded another mod, accepted it, everything works fine except fallout 4 is randomly crashing left and right. I did something wrong, but I don't know what :sadvaultboy: :sadvaultboy: :sadvaultboy:

The aesthetics of firing a .308 are a lot different than a .50 BMG. While with a good muzzle brake even a rather petite woman can fire a .50 BMG rifle without trouble, the shooter..not to mention anyone standing near them...can feel the power difference, the report and pressure wave from the brake is quite impressive. The rounds are also hideously expensive....you'd be spending 5-6x or more per round of .50 BMG over the cost of .308.

I understand, but I'm not particularly worried about aesthetics and animations like that. I could care less. I'm A LOT more focused on the balance aspect.

ill still take my .45 cal double damage on targets with full health sniper rifle. ammo is every where and it only does a few points lower then .50 cal or .308 and i hit stuff for over 2400 with crits.

I don't know the numbers off the top of my head, but my .50 sniper rifle does a lot more damage than it did before I upgraded it from the .308 rounds. I'm using the sniper rifle that starts life as the hunting rifle. It's fully modded, .50 receiver, long ported barrel, marksman's stock, long recon scope, and a muzzle brake. It's a beast.

The combat rifle is my other main gun and I've got it chambered in .308. It's a powerful gun too, but it doesn't pack the same punch as my .50 recon sniper.

And where was it confirmed that .50 is .50 MG? Nowhere. You are doing bunch of assumptions just like him as much as I can tell.

It's not that useful because you also sacrifice a lot of noise for the tiny extra damage. If you are the sneaky killy kind of player like me, the 308 combat sniper is very quite with the suppressor vs the 308 or 50 cal suppressed hunting rifle

.50 is underpowered in this game.

The REAL .50 cartridge (and NOT the pistol cartridge, either) will easily reach out and touch a target accurately and consistently at over a mile (1800 meters, I've done, from a 40 year-old machine gun at that). And there is a HUGE difference in energy at the same range, between a .50 and any ol' .308. Seriously, have a look at any ballistics resource (Hornady keeps some great info available for FREE through their website).

It's not a matter of the .50 being 10 or 15 or even 25 percent better in terminal performance at the same range. It's a MUCH bigger difference.

Also, any weapon that can fire a .50 is going to be a lot heavier than one that fires .308.

New Vegas got that much right, to be honest. The AMR was bigger and heavier, and fired the much more powerful .50, compared to typical sniper rifles that fired the .308 (Gobi was my girl!).

The .50 needs a big buff. But it also needs to NOT be compatible with smaller rifles like the existing sniper and hunting rifles. And it needs to be a lot more scarce as a cartridge.

i do agree the 50 needs more than double its current damage.

not enough to be as good as a maxed gauss rifle or even on the same league but definitly better than any other ammo option for standard ballistics.

ignoring how real world stuff works as a upgrade i do think that the 50. should be much better in terms of damage or at least have massive AP traits. something like 90% armor ignore would be nice. would turn the rifle into a anti armor weapon.

My take is the rifle itself is a run of the mill hunting rifle usually chambered in .308 ( 7.62 NATO ) meaning the action itself is incapable of ever utilizing the 50 BHMG round 1st the mag well is way to small & the bolt can not go back far enough to accommodate the .50 Browning round meaning the fallout 4 .50 round must be something like the .50 Beowolf. a round that will fit in the standard hunting rifle mag well & with a overall case length close to the original caliber. The other thing is the weight a Barret M-99 which is a bolt action .50 BHMG rifle weighs in at 23.5 LBS unloaded
