Slaves in Fallout and how it might apply in life

Society, which is what you're talking about generally in this thread. A society where slavery is institutionalized and regulated.

As I've said before, what you seem to be describing is a relationship - which while admittedly kind of kinky for my tastes...what two consenting advlts do in the privacy of their own home(s) is not for me to judge. But that's the crux of it - consent. A Slave by societal definition does not have the power of consent. What the slave does not give willingly, the master takes by force.

To quote Andrew Ryan

"A Man Chooses.

A Slave Obeys."

First of all "Society" is majority opinion. Not ALL opinion. Do you really think bdsn slaves were a thing some 100 years ago (remember that black thing)? As for game terms just look as the Legion in NV. Come on man... Things can always change or a new society can be made.

Secondly, relationships both applies and it does not. At the same time in a way. I don't see things in such binary terms often if at all (It caused problems. I tossed out labels. Been happier since). Hell, I don't even see things from a "friend" point of view (though others may see differently of course. Friend zone svcks btw). I see things from a "this is a logical viewpoint to make and it's not applied to others unless they choose to share that". Possible relationships is certainty an incentive though. But people can still understand you and treat you as a person while taking away your freedom without being sixually interested. It's about caring, most certainty, but if you're understood and not getting laid, then... Will everyone see it as a relationship without the getting laid element?

Btw, JSA and placements. Slave labor man... Do they see me as a person? They don't even try to help. Whole system is a joke. Could choose to be "free" but then there's no money. What's the lesser of two evils? Why is "Taking away time" legal? Did any of us really consent to it? Is it a choice between "Job" and "No money"? Who chooses to be poor? But then, who chooses to work (some may, some will not)?

Ha, ironic! I'm choosing to learn webcoding to get out of slavery. Aw man, that logic. "Getting free of a job to do a job". I'd feel free in one yet not the other.

Yeah, laws would say what slavery is, so would society at large. If you are using a word, other than what it is defined as, then you will run into these types of problems.

Bad example but I can dress up as a wookie, and call myself a wookie, and try to act like a wookie, and get someone else to play along, but I wouldn't really be a wookie.

I kinda get what you are trying to say but we have a case of a single word, being used to describe two different things. Language is not perfect.

Wait, I'm confused. Are you talking about Slavery or sixual Submissiveness? Because I've been talking about the modern day slave (read: People in Forced Captivity) trade and its extension into the game world, not the societal acceptance of a specific practice of physical intercourse.

I'm talking about the lack of six. six applies when it's relevant but other then that it's slavery in general. That is, One can be a master or slave and decide for themselves how the label is applied. Both sides may conflict on that. They don't have to agree on it in forced situations. I'll be explaining the why of that once we sort through the rest of this.

And keep in mind that some people may not have six yet still be in a relationship in the intimate fashion. As well as there are people that do have six that can get friend zoned. Someone not sixually interested yet understanding and is the same gender with the slave being straight would be...? Not furniture I think. That's all I know for sure on that one.

And keep it coming. I need to get the viewpoints/technicalities/facts and lack of sorted out. It helps to explain things better once that's the case and it seems I need to give a better first impression on this. At the same time I'm realizing mis-understood viewpoints can be good in terms of providing story content.

THIS! ^^^

If you're free to post on the internet that you're a slave, then you're not a SLAVE slave.

To each their own. No judgement on your lifestyle choices. It IS a bit of TMI though, and not relevant to Fallout 4 (though maybe to a certain resort on the New Vegas strip).

You simply cannot compare a lifestyle choice to forced-labor-slavery and still be taken seriously in a conversation on the topic.

Whether or not the relationship is sixual doesn't change much. If there is consent, then it is not slavery. That is just the definition of slavery for the majority of people and societies and laws. Sure, you can call what you do slavery, and that is perfectly fine, but if you want to actually discuss this topic without going around in circles I suggest using a different word.

Ok, I see the confusion here. Been so used to using slave I seem to have neglected the sub thing. There's "Slave" and then there's "Slavery". When I use the word "slave" I mean it in the same context at one would use it in the sense of "pet" (sub). UNTIL the word is used in a forced situation. BUT a slave can be enslaved (maybe he was already a slave to someone? Whatever, going somewhere with this) yet still see himself as a slave in the same context as "pet".

Here's an example. Caught. Enslaved. You're a slave. That's it. Dirt. Wait, I'm actually cared for? Yet I'm not allowed my freedom? Ok, still a slave. But now I'm cared for. See what I did there? BOTH examples. The "pet" part comes later. sixual or not.

And keep in mind there's prior no-consent and a none verbal allowance. I personally don't say "no" unless it's against one of my hard rules (Not baring who I care for and who else I can and may be with is a biggy). BUT I can also be a withering mess on the floor saying no at the time, yet it can be ok because I know I'm cared for and there's other good things going on on a whole. I still surrender my freedom at that point in time however (baring the whole hard rule thing). The mix of things. And I personally think that allowing the bad things to happen shows a good deal of trust. Provided your personal hard rule areas aren't taken advantage of.

And I can hardly use a in game example if I can't get the real one explained first (which I hope I just did). Good games need immersion. But also a change of what's going on.

I actually know an example but it's a none 18+ environment. I could mention where it came from maybe but... Think of "Trails" (Anyone having played it will know what I mean). One of the ant things touches on the topic. Good example of relationship incentive.

That about cover it all?

Right, I think I understand. Yes, I am sure stuff like that has happened before and maybe happens in RL too. Slavery was everywhere in ancient times and no doubt some of them were treated very well, but still a slave. It is still illegal but I do get your point, sometimes someone might actually enjoy being a slave, if they were treated well. But that is an extremely personal choice, and I am unsure how to translate anything like that into either RL or this game.

Sorry. Unless we can point to your definitions applying to a case in Fallout 4, you don't get to say that you are a slave and have it be in any way meaningful with regard to the game.

And point goes to being understood. I used to svck at explanations. Still do somewhat but at least now I can explain at least.

Well basically it's "Look at this game. How could it be done in that way?" Since there are no games that do it in that way then I only have this game to attempt to explain a "that way" approach, using this game and RL for examples of "this way". Slavers treat slaves like dirt. Synth get treated like... dust? And the "that way" example would be what I'll be attempting to explain to compare it with the two.

I'll get more into that once I figure out how to explain it all without making a fool of myself. XD

I'm actually trying to rake my brains on the whole "Slave first and then pet as well" thing in terms of Fallout. Does any such examples exist in game? Super mutants! Aha! Forced to be slaves for the master. Now look at them! Pets all! But pets to who at this point? Master's long gone. Who are they serving again?

Marcus from Fallout 2 would be a better example there. He gets pretty into the topic. Former human. Poof. Pet. And he atttempted to make Marcus one once. But let him be himself as he is after that because they became chums.

Seriously though, anything like that in 4?

Nobody cares. Stop power-leveling and talk about the game.

Christ what a dumb topic. Like is this seriously about "Why isn't there bdsn in Fallout".

Raiders. Synth. Legion. How could slaves be made not to want to run off and be "pets" instead beyond "I'll kill you if you try it". And what would stop people wanting to be slaves? There'd need to be a "lesser of two evils" approach to it.

Happy?

Not really. Your still talking at me with your language.

Stockholm Syndrome, where-in these people are so mentally broken - from being enslaved by sadistic Raiders - that they become delusional. But I'm guessing that might harsh your buzz.

Are you high?

We are all slaves to a covert system of oppression and brain washing!

No but really, why is this subject even being brought up? Don't get bogged down on such fine details that aren't even there, enjoy today and what's in front of you.

Or it's a case of "This person actually really does give a damn after having gotten to know each other, which makes me give a damn back". Why does what's different often get seen as some mental illness?

Wherever they actually do will depend. But it does happen and it's not some "mental illness" in every case. If even at all.

By that logic the ideas for this game should never have existed. Guess we should delete it.

Because nobody wants to be someone else's dog. Like seriously "How do we condition people to want benevolent slavery" is the question here. People do not want that, they may take it against a worse alternative I suppose but nobody wants that unless they get off on it like you in-which case they're already converted.

But it does exist because someone went out and made it happen. You are just sitting on a forum fantasizing your own sixual desires and transferring them onto a game you play.

And actually judging from your OP you actually seek out these situations of self-detriment in social arenas. Well, I wont satisfy your needs. Have fun in your fantasy land that nothing ever comes of.

And this is not related at all because...?

Super mutants. Vats. Lap dogs. As for how a game faction works in general perhaps no one has actually attempted to devise a way to make it the alternative. Does that mean the Institute will never have the possibility of seeing Synths as alive at a later date? What if you made it happen after the Institute ending? Same concept. Different questions. Same logic. Same patterns. Synths are lapdogs. Will they always want to be once they get seen as human yet still imprisoned? Why might they remain that way? There is that whole genocide thing. "How can this be made less worse?" It's fun to speculate. Raiders might be a lost cause in terms of "How can they do this" but I can see something like a Legion like faction working out because it has some degree or order.

See above. Can raiders, institute and Legion MAKE it happen? The master MADE it happen. Without six (ew, mutant six) I'm surprised I'm having to explain this.

Sidenote: Maybe "How slavers could treat slaves better while still keeping them held against their will" would have been a better title. Anyway, my logic here is "Dirt slaves. Dust slaves. Pet slaves/Freedom." How would one turn dirt into dust, other then dipping them in a vat? How is the dog trained in a "we're stuck with each other" situation? (institute. But how would that work with none robots?)
