Recording function

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 1:55 am

Pardon me if a similar topic already exists , I did use the search function but didn't get any results.

So basically I want to know wether Brink will have some sort of built-in recording function like in other shooters ? Would be great to make fragmovies (and from now on parcours movies :D)!

As far as I know there is not going to be any system like that in place. I'm assuming you mean like Theatre mode in CoD:Blop and Halo games?

Would be kind of nice to have, for a number of reasons. In COD, it's particularly useful for when you want to show off how badass you were last match. But in this case, it may be good for organized teams to show coordinated teamwork in a given match, making tutorials for new players, and so on. Xfire and Fraps are both good options for screen capture, but use up a great deal of resources and render games unplayable (or ugly due to lowered settings) for the majority of people. Plus, there is no room for error.

I'd say it would be a welcome feature. Perhaps in a patch. But not a priority.

Was rather thinking about a pretty standard demo function like in other cod games , cs games etc
just /record or /demo or whatever in those games.
Think a feature like this will be essential to get this game working competitively aswell. ( Gonna create a topic for a competition config soon btw :hubbahubba: )

Ofcourse there are third party programs for screen capturing , but like you said it demands a lot of your system of you want some sort of decent quality recordings. On the other hand I would be surprised to not see it right from the start ( all other idtech games have it , even the -very- old RTCW)

Splash Damage have not mentioned anything about such a feature. Which basicly means they probably don't pay much attention to it.

If we're lucky, the /demo-command is not disabled. And if we're very lucky, they will give us a full theatre-mode later.

EDIT: Also http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1120313-theatre-replay/ is a biiiig thread about basicly the same topic.

I don't really care about theatre mode quite frankly , as most of of the time the final result isn't as nice compared to normal editting.
For instance take a fragmovie from cod4 and compare it to one on cod : bo , you'll spot the difference ;)

But as you said in the thread you referred to : the more vids on youtube , the more players will be attracted , the bigger the community -hopefully- gets !

Have to say, I like the idea of using something like this for use in perfecting strategies and such with teammates.

Or you can also use a private server and teamspeak/mumble or ventrilo for that ;D

Maybe they already have it because it looked they were using some kind of theatre mode for the developer diaries.

No. They make stuff like that especially for special occasions. The made special playable demos for the con season. When they show off something it's most likely that they're playing in GOD mode and have unlimited ammo.

As far as the recording goes. It's the iD4 Engine which had a record function in ET:QW. So they would actually have to take it OUT of the code, rather than creating it. I guess they won't remove it.

Blops-videos sometimes have awesome tracking shots and outside perspectives of a scene.

The main issue with the COD-crowd is, that it seems to be much to lazy to use the theathre-mode at full scale.

It would be nice, but capture cards definitely are there for a reason.

Technically it should be possible to use capture-cards for PCs as well. Thus partly removing the hardware-strains (CPU-load & filesize) caused by programs like Fraps.
