xbox 360 save bug

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 12:35 am

Heya all,

I've been reading these forums off and on and have noticed that people are experiencing a major corrupt save bug. Do we know what the cause is? Is it actually having the pre-order dlc?
It would be nice to know as australia has finally had their preorder dlc codes activated and I am wondering whether to enter the code or not?

Cheers,
Ashen

people had the problem without the dlc, apparently there's a file that's considered dlc by the game which doesn't exist anywhere except the developers hands and when you hit a point a game that triggers it you're screwed.

Nobody really knows what the cause is. Speculation is that it has to do with the quest "Come Fly with Me" but at least a few people who have completely avoided that quest received the same exact error. Still others have been playing for >30 hours of played time and not seen the glitch at all, so it appears somewhat random in its appearance. Nobody's sure at this point.

It is almost certainly nothing to do with the DLCs, however. Many of those with the glitch didn't even install any DLCs, and even for those who did the error makes no sense. Why would not being able to load a piece of armor, a weapon or two and some misc. other stuff cause all of your save files to spontaneously become unplayable? Even with fairly bad coding in that area, losing a few items wouldn't kill the whole game, and as the followup error claims that the game can't reach your hard drive/memory card with the save game on it (which virtually all the time is a complete lie) I'm thinking that there's a very, very good chance that the DLCs are fine and have little, if anything to do with the real cause. The problem is likely in the game's core coding (perhaps with the coding for saves and how the game finds/loads them) and not with the DLCs.

If you want to be super careful you may be slightly better off not loading any DLCs and avoiding the aforementioned quest for now but again I really doubt that's the issue since people who have avoided both have still hit the glitch. At this point my best advice would be to not get overly attached to your character just yet and try to space out your play time so you don't get a whole ton of hours in right off the bat, else you may find yourself without any saves until they find and solve the problem and believe me, that's no fun.

is it worth moving/copying save or saves to another usb drive to keep em safe? as had no issues as such. main issue i had was in ncr mojave outpost where buying from a travelling merchant freezes the game.

Has anyone here with a pre-order dlc installed had this bug happen to them? I am wondering because my only friend that had it happen to him was the only friend I had that doesn't have a pre-order dlc.

I can only speak for myself, but in my case it seems like it was something in "Vault 3" causing the save game problem. It's a mission target to kill someone there - that went okay. But killing someone named "Daniel" there OR looting the place empty seems to caus the problem on my system. I am playing about 3h after NOT doing so with saving/loading at random places and times and it pretty much worked.

Playing the UK version without any DLC.

I too had the corrupt save message and was able to go back in my saves and pinpoint it to something in the Maintenance wing of Vault 3. Daniel isnt in this wing but some other quest dependant NPC is in here. ive got the N american version with Best Buy preorder dlc

Thats where mine first started as well. Daniel was NOT in any of the bedrooms, in fact he was nowhere in the Vault. I went to the Maint Wing and that leader guy killed me. It was reloading the autosave for me and thats when this popped up. Every game save from that point, ruined. This game, ruined.
