Steam Disc Write Error

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2015 10:19 pm

I'm putting this here, as opposed to Steam support, because Fallout 4 is the only game I'm having this issue with. I simply cannot install it. Having uninstalled it after numerous issues, I get 'Disc Write Error' each and every time I attempt to install. I researched the problem on Steam support and reinstalled Steam but I still get the same error. So I attempted to install other games and have no issues with any of them. It's only Fallout 4 I'm having this issue with.

Just to be clear, yes, I have enough Disc space for the game (387 GB free). The error occurs shortly after allocating the Cache, so not even 1% of the download complete.

Can anyone, please help?

See Post 3 before you try the suggestion below:

Hmmm,

Go into the Steam Apps folder and find the Fallout 4 folder, and delete it. Not sure if there is anything else in the Steam Directory related, but you might try looking for anything that says Fallout 4. Then, reboot your PC and log onto Steam again and try the install.

I had this problem with steam after I upgraded to windows 10. Basically windows decided my account no longer had write access to my program folder. This can be fixed by making sure your user account has "full permissions" for your steam install folder.

Ahh, yes the dreaded permissions issue. That is something else to check.

The only one that doesn't show 'Full Control' is 'Authenticated Users'. Is that right? Just to be clear as well, whilst yes I have Windows 10, the original installation of this game was with that OS. As was Skyrim, and the other Steam games I have and have tested.

I don't know if you googled it but loads of results come up. This is the first one.

You're basically saying you decided not to put this on steam support which doesn't explain whether or not you attempted my suggestion...

Your problem existed long before Fallout 4, if you used Google first you'd have probably fixed your issue by now. Good luck!

EDIT!!"!!!!!!! I'm sleepyyyyyyy and can't readddd!!!!

You may notice none of those links are relevant to Fallout 4, because the issue permeates many different games from GTA V, Rust, Starbound, and others. Something crazy on Steam's side of things.

One other thing you could try is opting out of the Steam beta if you're part of that. That particular piece of advice came from Stack Exchange, and had a down vote. Who knows why, but it might work. It's at the bottom of the stack exchange link.

The YouTube fix seems the quickest and easiest to try, so lead with that.

Good luck!
