So what is your take on the Combat info from the GI?

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 4:15 pm

So I people got the Issue finally, I just saw it myself judging by the info provided it looks pretty good. I am really happy with it.

( btw I will be updating this as I find out more )

I hope dual wielding is done well, I like it and am glad it will be an option but I think Combat should be centered around a sword/spear and shield or two handed weapons so as long as all of these aspects are done well I am happy.

Basically from everything I have heard it sounds excellent.

- Executions
- Shield bash
- Back peddling fix
- Timed blocking for more intense varied combat
- Special finishers for all weapons
- Sprinting

Just to name a few
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The only thing I really hope makes a return is spears.
I swear if there is no spears... sad face.
Beards....finally :foodndrink:
Amazing. A nice step above Oblivion
Shield (shield bash is in!) + Spells, or Weaving two spells for special combos!
I'm still not convinced there'll even be two handed weapons. Let alone polearms. The over-present dual wielding is a huge disappointment, so is the overall consolified impression I have. I didn't think they could actually manage to disappoint me after Oblivion, but they did. At least combat-system-wise. The rest better be extremely awesome...
It's cool! It's one of the features I honestly can't give any "cons". At least for now.
It is ludicrous to think that they omitted two-handed weapons.
It's obvious the combat is improved but we won't know until some gameplay videos start coming out.
New combat system sounds a lot better than Oblivion and Morrowinds! Allows a bit of customization in your set up and maybe a bit more planning in how to win battles! Also no more jogging backwards while casting spells which is great!
Also bows are supposed to be slower but much more powerful. Also no back pedaling.
Yes the backpeddling fix is huge for me, also apparently there is executions which is all I ever wanted lol.
And yeah the bow's being slower and more powerful is excellent That is the way it should be.
Holding the big battle axe with his two hands.
I have no idea why people claims there is no two-handed weapons, there is a screenshot of one.
I didn't see anyone bringing up the fact that sprinting was introduced.
I think we're going to get one brand new and much more dynamic combat!
Well, not everyone has seen these pictures. I can't get Game Informer where I live, so I can only hear the rumours. And the text about the combat system sounded like "either you have sword and shield as a defensive combo, or sword and spell, or sword and sword as offensive combo". I didn't really see two handed weapons fit in there. Well, good to know they exist... Now let's hope spears are back. Although I highly doubt it.
I am colored intrigued and interested. The "equip any item/spell to a hand" system sounds good, Demon's Souls used something similar and it worked well there. We can dual-wield for the first time (wonder if we can dual-wield shields? :P) which is great, on top of the usual sword-and-boarding, two-handing, or the current form of sword-and-spell-slinging (can we shield-and-spell too?). Sprinting is in, which is awesome. And backpedaling has finally gotten a well-deserved nerf, it was just ridiculous how you could abuse it in Morrowind, Oblivion, AND Fallout 3. I am a little concerned about how magic will be handled in the new system, but I suppose the worst that will happen is that it will suffer the same problems as in the predecessors, with the player still largely flipping through menus to get the right spell for the job.
And, looking at the screenshot with the warrior charging the giant spider, I'm wondering if Bethesda has made improvements to handling combat with bigger foes, make it so you have to fight them differently. Such as, say, rather than attacking head on, you go for the beast's legs first to immobilize or slow it down, or jump on top of it. Probably not, but hey, a man can hope.
