Easily the best ranged weapon one can get their hands on during the first 30 levels. Didn't care much for the stock configuration, but gun nut 3 sorted that out quickly. It's a combat rifle that does 2x the damage in practice. Defiantly a gun one should consider rushing to get ASAP. Just need 3 fusion cores and 3k caps worth of barter at the most, much lower if you are a charming waster. I bluffed my way into vault 81 and did the trade with 11 charisma + trade perks.

.38 ammo exchanges to caps at a 1:1 rate FYI. Hoard that stuff.

The hunting rifle is better than a combat rifle can be with all their best mods and if you can land a legendary one that "shoots an additional projectile" then that is the best one shot rifle in the game.

Yeah, this gun rules. I've got it modded with the best automatic firing mod one can mod, a long ported barrel, a large quick eject mag, a reflex sight, and a muzzle brake.

Amazing for Medium and Short range encounters. For anything else, there's Old Faithful as a sniper rifle.

I'm going to strongly disagree with you on this. I HAVE a Two Shot Hunting Rifle and the Overseer's Guardian. I have the mods maxed out on both. The damage difference is not a great as you think. In fact, before I got the legendary hunting rifle, the Overseer's Guardian actually did more damage than the ordinary hunting rifle. with its significantly higher rof, it easily out-DPSes the legendary hunting rifle. It chews up mirelurk queens so fast they're not even a concern anymore.

PS. Mine is modded to chamber a .308 and my hunting rifle is a .50 cal.

Not sure why you'd waste time making these things automatic.....a complete waste. One bullet from my .50 Two Shot is extreme overkill on a mirelurk queen. One bullet from my .308 sniper(regular hunting rifle damage +15) drops it.

They're not. My Two Shot is a .50 cal and my Overseer's Guardian is a .308.

You two are both wrong its plazma rifle with legendary shoots an aditonal projectile that you want, if you mng to get that it renders anything else in non automatic weapon area obsolete.

Now there is one big thing that makes Overseers Guardian a very good early to mid game weapons and that is that you can buy it long before plazma rifle can even drop and its not random loot which makes it super easy to get.

Wrong....max Sneak attacks with a silenced one shot rifle are 5.9 times the base damage of the weapon....no energy weapon can achieve this as they cannot be silences.....so they will always be second rate weapons at best.

Only if you play a sneaky sniper character and in that case it still neather of the two listed but Gauss rifle with 2 shot legendary mod which can be silenced:) i use plasma rifle for close to mid range engagments(light, superb dmg, fast fire rate for semi auto weapon).
